What to do if noone likes your programs?
Started by basdxz, 04 February 2013 - 08:17 AMPosted 04 February 2013 - 09:17 AM
I worked very hard on a music player, when it was done and looked VERY cool I posted in on the forums but noone seemed to like it :(/>. When another more known user made the same code, the program got popular VERY quickly :(/>. Is there any thing I can do? WHAT DO I DO IN THIS SITUAION?!

Alright, before we get into the main reason of why nobody commented on your program, I'd like to say a couple things.
First off, if you're looking for other's positive opinions as a source of pride, you're doing it wrong. It's not about getting the most thumbs up in the programs section, it's about making a good program. Stand back, look at it, be proud of it, and give no shits to who likes or dislikes it.
Secondly, it's a douche move to hate others who have more comments than you do. They didn't directly mean to harm you in anyway, nor did they do anything to you at all. That said person and their program simply coexist within the same medium. Regardless of whether or not they have more skill than you do, there will always be someone that's better than you are, and it's best to accept this fact and get over it.
As for why your program only got one comment, the rule "no pix no clix" applies well here, as stupid as it may sound. When people get a preview of what they're downloading, and they like what they see, they're more likely to download it. It's all in the presentation if you're looking for others to use your programs.

This probably should have been in General.
Are you talking about your Aperture jukebox?. Well, why don't you add some screen shots, make new features etc

:)/> I think I will start work on improving it, thanks for the imput and the direct point at "no pix no clix". Will be working on making it better than that other one ^_^/> .

It's better, in my opinion, to make a good program, rather than to try to make a better program than everyone else's.

Moved to General.
In regards to your program, who cares???
Don't be such a whiny little kid when someone finds other programs more appealing than yours. I have made several programs that I believe are better than someone else's, but that is MY opinion. If you don't get the attention you think you deserve, then make something better. And don't complain when someone is more successful than you. That's just pathetic.

If you really want something to get attention put something that you know the forum will hate in the title, then everyone will flock to your thread to hate on you and you will get all of the attention you desire.
Although this is a dick method.

That is one quick way to get your topic deleted. This is not advised. If you really want something to get attention put something that you know the forum will hate in the title, then everyone will flock to your thread to hate on you and you will get all of the attention you desire.

(I just created my account just to respond to you)
It may have taken you quite a while to make your program however you shouldn't let that be the one standing parameter that you use to govern how "great" your program was. Also, soiling your reputation by getting into jealous cat fight with another member of the community. Also, you shouldn't use petty names to attempt to insult people. :(/>

Okay, well first off:
So you spent "two weeks" coding this music player, and because you did not get as many likes as another member of the community you are complaining? What do you think this is going to accomplish? Wait, don't answer that - it was a rhetorical question. I can easily tell you what it is going to accomplish:
1. You will be viewed as a petulant and immature child
2. Your future programs/posts will be ignored. People see behavior like this and immediately think, "Wow, that kid is stupid. He probably can't make anything of good quality."
3. Your "competitor" will be given a large number of likes because he is actually being polite and mature.
4. You will be put on my ignore list (not that you care, I'd imagine, but I prefer not to see stupid threads like this)
TL;DR? This is a good conclusion to my points.
Spoiler

Name calling and immaturity will not be tolerated. This is your one warning to keep it civil. ALL OF YOU.Mine took more than 2 weeks of coding, I spent most of my free time and now you you "moron" made yours and noone will ever like mine :angry:/>

Agreed. Also, even though it is over 300 lines, it is very disorganized. This could probably easily be rewritten to be under 100 lines.

And besides that, it is pretty much the same few lines repeated

I find it really ironic that he attempts to open rednet AFTER wasting our time with a loading screen.

Alright folks. I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you just can't play nice. LOCKED.

I'm incredibly disappointed with the overall behaviour of people in this thread - and I'm "raking all involved over the coals" publicly, because this is NOT acceptable, and this seems, to me at least, to be a common few members.
The first thing I see is an honest question turned into a name-calling, verbally rude "session" from some particular members. I will admit, the reason for the post seems a little silly, but this doesn't give you any grounds to turn around and go and start, bluntly put, crapping over other people - for any reason. Yes, some things might seem stupid, but we don't comment on them. If you see something objectionable, wrong, or offensive on the site - you press that little "Report" button, fill in a reason - and carry yourself on your merry way.
There are some particular users in this thread that have been warned repeatedly for their behaviour, and are, in fact, very quickly approaching possible suspension - as their repeated warnings increase their "black marks". We have a simple, clear set of guidelines we expect members to follow at all times - this is not "when it suits me" or "when I actually read it" or "perhaps I'll follow the rules now" - it's the moment you start doing things. They are not hard, they are not unrealistic, they are simple and clear. We are a community forum and we expect you will behave in a manner that is appropriate. There is absolutely no justification at all that I personally, or I don't imagine anyone else, will accept for this behaviour - and not only is it immature, you make yourself look like a complete and utter mook (ud).
And now I've had my angry rant about behaviour, I have to issue warnings (for behaviour!), and go back to dinner. Please, don't repeat this again.
