I though that a laptop whold be a good idea.Basicly it is a normal computer BUT when you brake it it keeps all data and programs. If the item is destoyed (fall into lava) the data get lost/deleted.
EDIT: It has a build in modem with a range of 128blocks (double than normal 64).
I hope this is a good sugestion.

You can name the computer with "label set <some name>" in order to achieve this.

I could see this being used as something similar to the PDA idea another guy suggested…
A portable computer (You can use it in your hotbar) … and maybe since it's a laptop you can place it down and pick it up too!

I don't think a laptop would be a good idea. But I have another 1:
Portable screens! A screen you can open with rightclick from your hotbar, then type in a computer ID and then you can remotely control that computer

this is a good idea but like someone else said u can label a comp and if you look in the Computercraft config you can change the modem range from 64 to whatever you want :P/>/>

I thought something like a PDA would be a good idea, but it's cheaper, can't program on it and it can only hold one program with so much on it. Use: it can be attached to walls, like a keypad, or attatched to TNT to add a time limit on it and have instant explosion when it detonates

PDA is the solution we decided upon. You also bumped a thread which was 8 months old. As such, it is locked.
