Hello again everyone, I'm back with a NEW computercraft-inspired series in which I try to make a turtle replicate itself completely autonomously. I will be posting periodic updates on my YouTube series and I will be doing live streams of the development on twitch.

You can check out the YouTube series here: http://www.youtube.c...e10l2WkValaTqlS

and my twitch stream will be here: http://www.twitch.tv/termhn/new

Wait, does the turtle basically craft another turtle?

Yes, that is the idea. Except it cannot be interacted with by the player while it is doing so.

Sticks are better than planks or logs and baking a log into coal is better than sticks. It has some cobble so it can make a furnace and bake some logs into coal using sticks. I like the spiral pattern system for looking for logs it looked thought it missed the top part of a tree at about 4:40 . Good work so far and keep it up would be nice to see this theoretical (turtle self replication) turned into a proven.

For those who missed it. It basically an attempt according to this contest: http://www.computercraft.info/forums2/index.php?/topic/4462-competition/

Been tinkering with it myself too and it's fairly challenging… mainly because of keeping track of your inventory… :)/>

Also:
- 1 wood burns for 15 fuel
- 1 wood makes 4 planks burning for 60 (=4*15) fuel
- 1 wood makes 8 sticks burning for 40 (=8*5) fuel
- 1 charcoal burns for 80 fuel, if you compensate that for 1/8 because you need burn 1 charcoal to make 8, you end up at 70 fuel

So, sticks aren't better than planks and, yeah, charcoal's the best of those. :)/>

Yes exactly. Thanks for the awesome info and I've noticed the same exact thing ;)/> good luck with your attempt. :)/>

Yes I caught the tree bug and fixed it. It had to do with the turtle refueling in the middle of the tree. Also I have made it break down the logs into planks before going down for dirt and cobble and spiral for more trees which is much more fuel efficient and works great. I think the next step is to make a furnace… The think I'm having trouble with us a quick way to drop all of its inventory and keep it sorted so that it can craft then pick all the stuff up correctly again…
