Have a new peripheral called "Scanner", You place printed pages in it, and it will scan the pages. Each line will go into an array.

I am quite surprised this isn't in the mod already. Support.

Yes.

I support this being included stock. It would allow faxing.

Faxing is almost useless, though. Unless it can import written books and maps. Or, I suppose if there was a typewriter peripheral to go with it, maybe.

I've seen this suggestion before, somewhere, and I even made a few posts on it. I'd link to it, but I think the mod.s would hate me for it. So I'll reiterate: QR codes would be much more useful. Maybe make a shop where you have to pick up a bar code from a chest or item frame to put said item into your "cart".

Basically, what I'm getting at is that, for the cost, just having a scanner pull in printed pages is less useful than just putting it on a floppy. Importing a map, though, that would be fun. Pull in a map, have it display on a giant gold monitor. . . I'm salivating now, apparently.

There is no need to fax when we have Rednet

The same could be said about disks.

I disagree with anyone who says faxing would be useless. Well, I don't disagree. It would be useless for the most part. But, to be fair, this is a video game. Everything about it is technically useless. :P/>

But faxing would be fun. Plus, it would be a new peripheral to play with. And you have to assume that those printers are getting lonely with no one to play with, right?

For some roleplay servers it'd be useful, because towns might want to keep hard copy records, etc in a library of who lives in towns, what wireless frequencies people are registered with, etc. I dunno, let your imagination flow :D/>. My point is, is that if printers exist, then there should be no reason why the opposite shouldn't.

The reason is that it takes effort to write.

I support. Scanners should be added, and they should also be able to scan Vanilla books so we can write on the go! :)/>

that would be awesome with the upcoming PDAs, making the PDA the only "computer" that is able to scan QR codes. you could create a shortcut for programs in your base to run.

Necromancy is bad

You seem to have forgotten that you're on thin ice around here and that we don't like backseat moderation, which this is treading dangerously close to.

I support this idea as well, if only for the ability to make my vanilla books easier to copy… I have to get permission from the mods on my server to use creative and itemframes to duplicate my books. A scanner which stores a vanilla (SIGNED) book as a text file would be very useful.
