What can a computer do that turtles can't? I was wondering if there was a benfit to a computer.

They can't run away from you :P/>/>
Turtles are computers that can move and dig (only with pickaxe), so there's no actual benefit from using a computer over a turtle.
The only difference is that computers are easier to make (since turtles are made from a computer), so you may want a computer if you don't plan on moving it (like base computers, servers, etc.). Also, I think turtles have a smaller screen, but I'm not sure, I don't remember now XD
Personally I almost never use turtles, since I don't need them to test my programs.

Thank you for the very information filled post. You're right, turtles are like children, they disappear if you don't watch them.

Turtles are good a rednet receivers, cause you have a computer and modem in the size of one block.
