Best free software is phpBB but if you want to buy one, use IP.Board or XenForo.

What about SMF? I think SMF is a lot more modern than phpBB. I like phpBB but it's just so old.

I like phpBB its old but has Tons of addons and themes easy to setup.

It's easy for users, it looks good, and it's basically a standard part of any modern interactive site.I use PhpBB but it is hard to set up and does not have WYSIWYG.
