Does anyone know of a good server host or even one that i can get hosting for free? Because I want to setup a white list survival server for the long time Computer craft users.

I doubt you can find any free hosting that is enough to run a Minecraft server with CC and Forge on.

If you have an old computer sitting out it will work fine. It should have at least 1gig of ram, though. Just install ubuntu server or debian core and set it up with minecraft/forge (if you need help ask me)

Phillips1012 is completely right. Also, ensure that you have good internet speeds. Minecraft doesn't like slow internet. (Cincinnati Bell sucks btw)

I use a almost free server host. 2 bucks a month for 256MB RAM. You can find it HERE.

Another cheap host is http://www.digitalocean.com/ , though, I've had experience with them (and other cheap VPSes), the performance is rather lackluster, but I guess you get what you pay for, eh?

They do have 1 week free of their lowest tier server, which is 5USD per month. They're a cloud server provider so you do have the advantage of being able to terminate the server whenever you feel like it (just make sure you back it up because you'll lose everything if you don't), and only get charged for the time you have it reserved.

Though, you do have to manually set up the Minecraft server, so if you've never done this before, especially not through a terminal, this might not be the best route for you to take.

I would definitely recommend Peak Hosting. I have a 2 gig server for $30 per quarter, and it is very worth it. They give you full FTP access, have a Multicraft control panel, have a huge list of custom jars to pick from, and if you need a different one then is on the list, just put out a support ticket and they will upload it for you. Also, the support tickets you send tend to get answered in less then 3 hours, depending on what you set the ticket priority to. Their customer service is awesome! The quality of the server itself is unrivaled. Peak Hosting is awesome!

Also, if you find any errors like fir for for, etc., then I'm sorry, I tried to fix them all, but writing a wall of text from a phone is not fun.

You mean $30 per month for 3 gigs and $20 month per 2 gigs right ? Or you get a special deal ? $30 per every 3 months is not even listed as an option here.

Either way, thats a nice website. I wonder if they would let me customize. Meaning, I choose which mods I want with a specific version of minecraft.

They do let you customize, hence full FTP access. I bought the Wolf server package, and while you do the purcasing steps, you can select quarterly or monthly payment options.

However, they don't let you directly access the server.jar file for security reasons, just do the support ticket thing.

If you do sign up: use this referral: http://www.peak-hosting.com/whmcs/aff.php?aff=159

Make sure it's peak-hosting, not just peakhosting.

It's a server, not a client.

Funny, some server software we are writing in Node.js runs with 20MB of RAM with no terrain loaded and 4 players connected :P/>

We may be awesome, but there's really no need to go advertising.

4 players connected… With no chunks loaded? That's… kinda pointless and nothing to boast about. Obviously you're not going to use much RAM when all you have to keep track of is a username, a session key, and a TCP stream.

My server running "BIG DIG" Idles at about 500mb.
When we were filming the WITNW show the server was running at about 3GB with all our builds on it and 3-4 people connected.
