I have unfortunately run out of RTS and simulation game, so if you have a good game you could put it here!
The game that I already had:
Company of Heroes 1 and its DLC
Warcraft 3 TFT
an open source RTS (I forgot the name)
KSP
Orbiter (Its like KSP without the ship building , search it up)
Powder Toy
Powder Game
Starcraft 2
Starcraft 1
Minecraft
GMod
And that's all, I will probably download Age of Empire
Well I'm want to get some new game, because now nearly everyday I play either Dota 2, TF2, Gmod, Minecraft or just plain nothing

Frozen Synapse is a pretty fun Tactical Strategy game, any you get a second free copy if you buy it…
Civ 5 is OK (Civ 4 is far better IMO, although the tiles in Civ 5 are nicer)
Mount & Blade: Warband (for multiplayer) and Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword for single player are amazing strategy/simulation games
A game called "The Settlers 7" is pretty fun, though it's not that difficult and there it can get boring reasonably quickly… I would recommend the above games instead

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance was my RTS of choice for a long time. Great, large-scale battles if you can forgive the lack of polish.

Dawn of War: Warhammer 40k. The original, winter assault, and dark crusade are great. Although, Soulstorm is just an expanded version of Dark Crusade.

RTS? Soooo…..
Battle For Middle Earth counts, right?
Also, Civ IV/V is a TBS (Turn Based Strategy) not a RTS. (Real Time Strategy)

One of my favorite RTS games is the (very old) Empire Earth from Sierra.
This is the first game I was thinking of when I started reading the topic. I still play it occasionally.
Other games that come to mind that I've played:
- Rise of Nations (Thrones and Patriots is an expansion)
- Age of Empires
- OpenTTD
- Command and Conquer: Generals
- SimCity

For me, the gameplay matters more than the age. Many of the games I play today are from the late 1990s or the early 2000s.
Some other games I can think of:
- SimGolf
- Tropico
- RollerCoaster Tycoon
- Railroad Tycoon

My favorite RTS is definitely AI War: Fleet Command.
