In my oppinion, you should be able to craft printers out of gold, like computers, turtles and monitors. They should be able not to print in just one colour, but use all colours you gave in. (Using the methods setBackgroundColour() and setTextColour() )

The only thing this would add over the current printers is the ability to set the background color for each character, since printers can currently use whatever color dye you give them.

Is there any reason not to have that?

Since the background colour and foreground colour would both use the current dye, it would take two passes to print text on a different-coloured background.

Well on top of background color, I really wish you didn't have to re-print to have multiple colors.

The advanced (color) printer should have 16 ink cartridges with level meters, one for each color, and one or two slots to put dyes in. Putting in dyes fills the bars, printing things empties them. Ink would cost per character instead of per page. Filling a page completely with characters would cost exactly 1 item worth of dye, but if it's half whitespace then it'll only use half as much ink.

And that's a really good idea!
