Planning On Starting A Cyber Warfare Server

im getting reeeeeeallly bored

so, who thinks i should start a cyber warfare server :3
rules:
  • no griefing / stealing bases
  • you can enter someones base and use their computers
  • deleting / editing other peoples files is allowed, be sure to back up your stuff!
  • placing redstone torches and disk drives in other peoples bases is allowed
  • respect admin, they may kick / ban you for any or no reason, PM me if there is admin abuse
  • no spamming chat with MiscPeripherals or Adventure map interfaces
  • no code that might harm / lag the server
  • turtle griefing not allowed
  • person with biggest melon farm has the biggest melon farm, same applies with wheat, potato, carrot, pumpkin, sugar, wart, cocoa, and cactus no exeptions!
tips:
  • firewolf might aswell be a virus
  • using gps will probably give your computer cancer
  • your encryption is probably made out of swiss cheeze, just saying
  • encrypt your rednet programs, if you beg me enough ill give you the encryption tools i use
  • you should already know this but, put a proper door lock on your base
  • i will also be hosting a httpnet server on the default ports, you can use that to secure connections also.
  • back up your stuff
  • dont blink
  • DONT BLINK
  • DONT BLINK
so, what do you think?
i will usually be on #pixel as ping, pong, or ^v

things added to rom:
  • programs/purge
  • programs/dhd
  • programs/firewolf
  • programs/scanner
  • programs/tron
  • programs/diskplayer
  • programs/diskreceiver
  • apis/infutil
  • apis/bignum
  • apis/scon
  • apis/httpnet
  • h/schan
poll (because they arent working):
1.5.6 or 1.6.2 (i prefer 1.5.2 because i can work in the rom a lot easier and because we can use MultiMC and because not all the peripherals are updated)

should i remove any of these?
buildcraft
dimensional anchors
industrialcraft 2
mystcraft
minefactory reloaded (i want its cables)
thermal expansion
SGCraft

This sounds really nice, I would definitely play on it.
I support this :D/>

Sounds fun. However, I'm not sure about some of the rules.

I don't think you should be allowed to use other's computers, and by extension delete or edit their files. Also, what do you mean by "person with biggest melon farm has the biggest melon farm"

This was kind of an idea what I wanted to add to my CC server as the survival side, but then I ran into some problems where inventories are saved over worlds.

This sounds like a great idea. Having to protect my systems from software injection and never feeling safe from people listening on my private channel… definitely my cup of tea!

Hmm Server Sounds Nice

Got Few Questions:
  1. Breaking blocks is not allowed yes? So someone needs to break by door computer to enter?
  2. Will httpnet be considered secure or can we try to break that too?
  3. I Know my encryption is made of swiss cheeze, but it's tasty
  4. Will it be public server? Can anyone join?
Thats in in questions category ;D Man it feels weird to go from lurker to posting person in 2 days.

Five minutes. Can I blink now?
Alice #8
Posted 25 September 2013 - 11:51 AM
  • dont blink
  • DONT BLINK
  • DONT BLINK
IT HURTS

Good server idea btw.

1. breaking stuff other peoples bases is not allowed, unless its something you placed :P/>
2. anyone can open up a channel, but aslong as you keep the channel secret it should be secure (might make a plugin for password protected channels)
3. nom
4. yes, if there is major greifing i might have to make people register to join

Well, if we find the right plugins. (Probably will have to make some of our own), I could host the server.

:(/> plugins
i refuse to put MCPC+ on the server
and i already have a computer to host it on:

24/7 debian
4 GB ram (3 allocated to server)
2.3Ghz AMD Turion(tm) II Dual-Core Mobile M520
Cranium #12
Posted 25 September 2013 - 01:26 PM
Eh, there's nothing really wrong with MCPC+, with the exception of a few smaller mods. From what I've seen, the only servers that have trouble are the ones using way too many already incompatible mods.

I Would prefer 1.6.2 myself – “turtle_inventory” event and Advanced Turtles are my selling points.

Mod-list sounds perfect from my standpoint ;D

But watch out on mystcraft - that stuff can crash server real easy - especially with inexperienced users :P/>

i hate the new 1.6.2 launcher, i will probably make my own (completely lua of course)

Wow, this sounds interesting. What would be the ultimate objective of the game?

Become secretly in control of the MC world's network, then rickroll everyone ASCII style.

But really, I think it would be cool to do something like Subrosa where different groups have to make deals with each other. Basically, each organization has something that the another needs to complete their objective. Example:
  • Red Value Team: 10 diamonds
  • Green Value Team: Floppy Disk (valuable data)
  • Sabotage Team: Floppy Disk (garbage data)
Two teams will get value items, and the third team gets a worthless floppy. The team with the fake floppy is the sabotage team. They'll want to trick one of the value teams into giving up their goods for the worthless floppy. The teams with value items won't know which team is trying to sabotage their deal until they upload the floppy data to their server to check for authenticity (If they happen to be close enough, or have routing computers for increased distance. Otherwise, they might have to take a program floppy with them to do the authentication). Even if the two value teams make the deal successfully, the sabotage team can still ambush either of them if they know where they're headed (this is part of where they cyber warfare would come in). Further, any team could also intercept unencrypted data that the teams send over rednet. Anyways, just my two cents. I think something like this would be awesome.

tip for security:
Spoilermaybe override os.setLabel so you don't get a virus and then just get stuck with a computer named virus with a virus

As I said somewhere else, Terraria 1.2 FTW!

Anyway, I'd just sandbox the peripheral API so you COULDN'T spam rednet if you wanted to. If they figured out how to get PAST your sandbox, they should be REWARDED. :3

There needs to be a warfare game element. Like maybe every once in a while there's an event where people pick sides and make two or more teams. Each team is given 5 256bit hashes, and they're meant to keep them safe on computers, while still making them retrievable somehow. No use of passwords without making that password somehow discoverable. It is the goal of every team to acquire as many of these hashes as possible. Something like that… Maybe some extra rules to make it harder to protect them, and require involvement of networking.

sounds interesting
each team should have multiple disks
how about making each team go to a specific "checkpoint" every 30 minutes or so, allowing for some pvp and stealing disks
if they dont go to the checkpoint within a certain amount of time the disks will become invalid and can no longer be turned in for a reward at the end

Hmm.. what is AMI sandbox? :)/>
adventure map interfaces from immibis'sssss peripherals, they are really powerful

Sounds a lot like a CTF. I like the sound of it.

Also, I've got some great ideas of my setup for this server, when is it happening?

Posted 31 January 2014 - 02:05 PM
I had in very far time same idea but … more "futurical" … something like: "Flying drones, programed soldiers , people living under ground on secret locations that can be found only by compuercraft rdnet ( or not ) …. may somewhere will be big "center" computer (with plugin) and everybody who will want a connection will must build a net of modems and secure it from other "teams" )"
(Or matrix-like)

Ahh , My dream .. :)/>

Good , idea. Hope its not freezed :)/>

It's really a good idea, but you'll have to fix some goals so people are forced to send data over rednet or something. Otherwise it would be boring…

Posted 03 February 2014 - 12:34 PM
This seems like something really cool… as being into the IT security and doing a few real world competitions… I would love to work/play on this…
as for the people downing the idea… it could be fairly easy to siphon data sent over modem channels and not rednet… just a simple script…

As answer to poll, I would say 1.6, because:
First of all as I know, multimc 5, supporting 1.6, has been released already.
second of all, there is, as I believe, a miscperipherals version for mc 1.6 and computercraft 1.55 and later.
third of all, all the mods In the list, as I believe, have been updated to support 1.6.
If I am wrong, you can delete whichever mods DON'T support 1.6 AFTER YOU TEST THEM!
