It would be super cool to have a block that worked like carpet or Build Craft Facades that could be layed over a network cable. I don't think they need to connect to each other like the normal monitor, but a single flat panel near equipment that could be used to "Label" the equipment digitally would be really handy.

What's wrong with signs?

not sure if it's possible but maybe it could be coded to allow buildcraft facades to be placed on network cable…. nothing wrong with signs of course if don't mind gaps you can see through and not being able to place them on floor or ceiling tiles :P/>

Nothing wrong with signs, but my system is quite dynamic, so having to run down to my storage or crafting system to change signs to match my program is just a bit of a pain, and i eventually always forget one. A digital solution that lets me do it via code and not mess up would be much nicer (wo taking more space). It is probably just the scale of the machines that I have built, but having 500+ signs to keep updated is a bit of a pain.

Another interesting approach I guess would be to make signs a peripheral with a SetText function so I could just attach a modem to the sign, though I think this falls out-of-bounds as it is basically the same as other "sign" based requests that were turned down. Not a huge deal, I have signs and they do work, it is just a bit manual :)/>

Modems can't attach to things that aren't full blocks.

I understand why turtles can't read signs but what about writing on them.

Can printed pages be placed in frames. (On my phone can't check right now) and if so can turtles place things in frames.

Turtles can already write on signs when placing them. Place your text in the arguments of turtle.place() when placing a sign.
If I recall, they can even place things in frames.

Not sure about this, considering that they have to .attack() it to destroy the frame. But they can write on signs.

I'm gonna go ahead and close this to prevent it from rising from the dead again.
