If you won 10 million dollars, what would you do?

Note to mods: This might be more of a Forum Games topic, but it's not really a 'Forums Game' hence why it's here.

So, the other day I was given quite possibly the strangest homework task ever. In economics we were told we had to spend 10 million (obviously fake) dollars and document what we'd spend it on. This may seem really easy, but it's actually a lot harder than you'd think; infact I just spent about 2 hours doing it. Probably the strangest thing was we weren't allowed to spend it on any investments (stocks, etc. although houses were fine, as long as you lived/visited them). I'm really questioning the genuinity of the economics teacher at this point, but it was quite enjoyable so I'd be interested to see what you guys would spend it on. We also had to come up with a situation that landed us in the position (e.g. won 10M in lottery).

So, yea, have at it.

By the way, I had to use Australian Dollars, but 10 million in what ever currency is probably fairly similar.

If you're talking about US Dollars…
US$1 = HK$7.8
US$10M = HK$78M…
Euro…
1 euro = 10 HK$
10M euro = 100M HK$
If you're talking about my local currency…
HK$1 = HK$1
HK$10M = HK$10M
I need to reply according to it.

I searched for a house,
I found it at 63m HK$, 8.1m US$, 6.34M Euro,
So… If I have 10M euro… I would buy it.
Housing is a HUGE Problem here in hong kong.

Also, I will buy an Airplane.a Cessna? it's something like 100,000…
6,340,000+100,000 = 6440000…
I will add more

10Mil AUD is like 8.9Mil USD.

So, I'll still buy/make a super computer to do reverse hash bruteforcing.

I might buy a gigantic house to live in. Do you have to spend the whole thing?

Buy a house and car. Mansions and rolls royces are not really my thing, even if I had 10 mil I would probably just live in a small inconspicuous house and probably get one of the newer volvos or something (I actually like them). Furnish house, get a workshop setup with CNC mill and 3d printer (and soundproof, considering mills are noisy and this is an inconspicuous house I would likely have neighbours who dont want to listen to my machining). Scratch that, sound proof most of the house while I am at it as I am used to living up here on a farm without neighbours or traffic noise, mates dont notice it but if I visit them I can't help but notice it. Dunno what I would do with the rest.

We had to spend every last cent. Some people even had to buy thing like Mars bars and Mentos. As I said, really questioning the genuinity of the teacher at this point.

Capital gains tax (about half), a moderate house, property tax, and then various properties in areas that are likely to be developed soon. A small parcel outside of city limits someplace to set up a personal range. Maybe a new computer and a new car. Nothing exciting.

Buy a new pc and throw the rest at the national debt.

Nope, that would be a waste. Give the rest to the poor in africa. (thaat doesnt count as an investment cause you dont get anything back.)

I would get the Titan (a supercomputer that a recent discussion here in General was about) if it wasn't 97 million dollars. I would just get the big house aforementioned and donate any leftover to Child's Play to make the job of spending the whole thing easier.

I would set up my own mechatronics research facility. Im shore a few CNC machines / 3D sinter based metal printers would use about 10M including a hermetically sealed lab space.

Then I would make the worlds first turtle ;)/>

Did anyone in your class actually donate the excess money to charity (to save them the effort - people pay for convenience) to get rid of it, or was that disallowed?

I haven't been able to see what others did, but I'd say that that would've been disallowed.

Yes, especially if you live in the US.

Funny you guys should mention that, I was thinking of making one myself, although unlike the one above it was going to use the turtle API :P/> I have a stellaris launchpad board flashed with elua, had a small robot running with it, was contemplating going full blown turtle with it.

Pretty sure some of the bigger companies can't be bought with just $10,000,000

If I won 10 mil euro net worth, I'd buy a nice house near california state university and get my masters degree in chemistry there.
After that I would go back to the Netherlands, buy a large house there and get a nice car. I would have about 9 mil left. I would invest up to 500k in stocks and distribute the rest of it over a dozen bank accounts and live a luxerous life from the bank interest and income from a part-time job.

spend it all on a fancy computer. Well, maybe like 3 mil to a house and 1/5 a mil to a car.
edit: After buying the house and car I'd get a 3D printer that could print electronics, start a thing that'd pay you for your old computers, and grind them up into their parts and use them for printing and make thousands of super computers then network them all together to make one giant super computer. After that'd I'd buy Oculus Rift to save them from the terrors of facebook. Then I'd increase their funding and let them hire more people to speed along the development then I can FINALLY play games in virtual reality!

Do what everyone would do while they had a job when they win a million dollars

Cause a scene at my own job saying that I don't need this and that I won a lottery and telling my Boss to suck it

10 million australian dollars == 6.90541609 euros so:
1) A better computer
2)Better internet Connection
3)Buy all the games I like
4)I would hire scientists to create a machine that would ,when you user got in it, make a video game apear as the real world. Something like the Matrix
5)If anything is left I will go and start buying chocolates until I am out of money

Man probably just a new gaming rig and a new MacBook. Maybe a new car for my mom, and me too. Pay off the mortgage on our house. Buy a private jet and hire a crew for it as well.
