DISCONTINUED
(Making a new OS… stay tuned.)
Why I Made ThisSpoiler
A few months ago, I was a happy coder. I loved to goof with other people's programs. I used NDFJay's NDF-OS. I loved the UI. I even edited his OS to make my own.(NDFN-OS. It didn't work right.) When he stopped updating NDF-OS, I didn't know what to do. So I started making my own.(This.) ChangelogSpoiler

I kind of lost all the code again, and I am probably going to give up. Don't you love when your hard drives fail? But… if I do continue this, I have part of the new kernel done. Here's a screenie:
Just a early prototype of the GUI.

When you say online web browser, do you mean something that can parse HTML? Or a Rednet browser? Because you could use Firewolf if you wanted a Rednet browser :P/>

Are you opening the file with the io library or the fs library? If you are opening it with the fs library, it should work. If you are opening it with the io library, it won't work because the io library doesn't reveal a readAll() function
io library:
local handle = io.open("test","r")
local contents = handle:read()
handle:close()
fs library:
local handle = fs.open("test","r")
local contents = handle.readAll()
handle:close()
Side note: I'm liking where you are going with this OS. It's not just another useless program, it's something more than that, It has potential. Keep up the great work ;)/>

if you want, i can send you my encryption/decryption api. has only two functions:
function encrypt(sText, sKey) --returns encrypted string
--and
function decrypt(sEncryptedText, sKey) -- returns normal string
could be good to save the users data. you can encrypt everything without the logIn and all files you want to use will temporary get decrypted.
the api is pretty fast, so big data like 1 MB at once is en/decrypted in a second.
it's a good way to protect your sourcecode and the data of the user. i will put that in the API section soon. and not crackable even if the "hacker" is able to see the api itself.
without pw, no way to decrypt…
another feature is that it supports all characters you can use in lua. so often when a encrypted file gets opened by an hacker he does only see lots of question marks because it uses lots of characters the terminal can't view :D/>
and what are you using for the "screenies". how did you get the coords and label on the top line? sry, never used cc-addons or whatever this stuff is :S

I might add encryption… but just to the user's info probably. I don't really care if anyone looks at my code.
I use cc-emu, but it's not working anymore. That is why I haven't released PR2 yet. Something is wrong with my java installation, and it won't let anything get on the internet.
I think the coords are like the location of the emulated rednet modem.

All the installer does is download and save files. Are you sure it was this, and can I get a error log from the server?
EDIT: Tried to replicate the crash, but I couldn't. Please give me some more information on the crash.

What I mean is that you have an office with windows, while I'm talking about a window divided into office, one for information, one for files and one for the shell

It was late at night so I wasn't thinking and I tried to run it on a normal computer and not advanced. That's probably why.
Also pleeaasee make an uninstaller, I had to delete every single file of NutOS on my own, and it took forever.

I will add one eventually. It shoulden't take forever to delete the files, all you have to do is this:
delete startup
delete .sys
Then it's uninstalled.
