Hello :)/>
I have this android tablet and i usualy use it to hear music and save some files. I normaly use dropbox to send files to the tablet, but when the files are big i like to use a usb cable to send the data from the computer to the tablet. I had it working in the first days, but now i have a think that is really annoying, yet not a big problem:
Right-click on my desktop files:
Spoiler

Right-click on my tablet files:
Spoiler

So the notepad++ shortcut, the avast, the rar, thedropbox, all of these options are really usefull to me, and i cant get them on my android folders.
Any clue on what is this?
Help apreciated :)/>

The images are visible if you drag them up into new tabs (or use these links, if you somehow have trouble with that). Some image hosters are weird.

I'm guessing that's Windows 7?

Nothing comes immediately to mind that specifically cause that. Has the tablet been plugged into other computers? Are you aware of any changes to your system - installed programs/updates - that occured around the time this started?

The device has not been plugged into no other computer.

It is windows 7 home premium.

The latest software instalation/update was :
hamachi (around the time this start happened, but i dont think it was hamachi)
some "ad blocker" malware - this is a litte older

Then i have a few windows security updates ( harmless, but may eneterd in conflict with something, idk ):

And no more updates/instalations.

Also one of the things that i did arround the time that this started to happen was:
When a new device is plugged in for the first time, the windows asks what to do with the device(browse files, sync music, etc) (Auto play device). And then i checked the box to not ask again and alaways browse files. I checked for the tablet drivers updates, i uninstaled the tablet drivers, i reset the Auto play but nothing changed.

Is the file inside an archive (.zip or similar)?

If the file is inside an archive then those additional options won't appear.
You must extract the files into a regular directory first.

I'm pretty sure it's because windows handles MTP devices differently than files on the main drive or any other filesystem. It's built into window's file explorer and I doubt you can change it. It's because how MTP differs to other systems, it's a protocol instead of a filesystem, so programs can't interact directly, (There is no actual path to the file from your computer's mounting system) thus it cannot be done. The only way out of this is for your OS to automatically copy the files onto your local hard drive, then open that through the program, and then put it back. Some operating systems and file explorers support this, but I doubt windows can.

No not that… I know tht i can't use them inside a zip/rar file. There is a rar file but its not inside of it that i can't get more options, it is in a normal folder/file.

Thanks for the reply, but as i said, i once had those options. They just disapeared…

That is for adding costume right-click registry, not what i am after but thnx anyway.

On my Xperia M I get the right click menu if I connect my phone in mass storage mode (MSC) but not in media transfer mode (MTP). Might you have accidently changed this setting?

That would depend on your Android version, and perhaps what your device is. Try throwing those details into Google along with the terms "disable MTP".

It sounds like some versions of Android only offer MTP - rather poor, if true.

I did google for enable MSC, disable MTP and nothing. The strange thing is that i already had it working…

Here are some details about the tablet:

I think i should had said this before, but i have enabled usb debugging in the tablet about the time this start hapening. I dont really know if it was that. I tried to diable usb debugging, enable it but nothing has changed.

I had some android phones and every time I plugged them with my USB they either asked me to select the connection mode or threw a notification to change it. On my LG L9 there was an option in settings. Try to connect your phone and search for such option in all settings app.

Depends on manufacturer firmware. Most of the sony devices even under android 4.4 still keep MSC. MSC under android is limited to browsing the SD card contents only and unmounts the SD card from the filesystem. MTP allows all mount paths (so for me just internal and SD card) to be browsed without having to unmount them.

Sadly it seems windows drops some options in MTP and OSX plain does not support MTP in the first place which is really really bizarre.
Although to say only offering MTP is rather poor still puts it ahead of all competitors considering iOS, BB10 and windows phone do not support this functionality at all which I would say is even poorer.

Anyway, my phone I have to go settings>Xperia>USB Connectivity>USB connection mode and then I get the choice of Metia transfer Mode (MTP) or Mass storage mode (MSC). My phone does not give me any notifications on connection about which mode to enter beforehand, nor is it effected by debugging being enabled or ADB being connected.

My phone (Huawei Ascend Y300 on Android 4.1.1) seems perfectly happy to offer up its internal storage in mass storage mode. This shows up on the computer as an entirely separate drive to the SD.

After playing around a bit, I found my toggle by connecting the USB lead, pulling down the notification window, then selecting the entry telling me a USB cable was connected. Can't seem to actually find it via Settings for the life of me.
