Are custom titles at 1k posts still a thing, with Dan's removal of titles from users that don't already have custom titles? Or is it a novelty for those who were some of the first to hit 1k?

They're not likely to be a regular thing any more. Some may still get done, but probably by invitation, or a special event (like Mad Dash was), etc.
