Real phones can use your microphone to listen to what you are saying, why should pocket pcs be able to read chat messages? Writing to chat would be a bit op, but we could have a pocket.beep that other players can hear if they are within 3-5 blocks of you.

I like the idea though.

EDIT: Huh? For some reason, this sentence is all that remains of my post.

A pocket computer is not a phone… why do people keep comparing it to a phone…

I'd much rather that dan200 finish implementing the peripheral system for the pocket computers so that I can make my mod work with them and then release it.

Probably because smart phones are essentially pocket computers :P/>

Why should pocket pcs behave like real phones? They are not phones.

I prefer to think of them as Ipads and other kinds of tablets.

a PDA can still have a mic, I like this idea, perhaps have a specal command for speaking to the computer so peaple do not have to listen to you say commands ment for computers. like "$perform calculations" (i am speaking from experence, on wireds old server somone made a irc client with a peripheral and i could hear a one sided conversation as they where telling the computer what to say remotly)

I think it would be nice if they can wisper to who is holding them to give feedback without having to put away your tools. you could be fighting off a creeper when you get a message like "the turtle is out of fuel"

thinking about it, i doubt this would get added though, i think this is doable with peripheals

In my opinion, I don't think we need a microphone or voice chat for the Pocket Computer. I think a simple pocket.beep(1) (1 being the lowest pitch, 5 being the highest) would serve us just fine. ;)/>

Yeah, you can also blink the red light by opening and closing rednet, but a beep would be quite a lot better.
