Found this on another forums earlier and thought I should post it here…

So, apparently in a targeted attack, several hundred thousand Minecraft account credentials were compromised (estimated 500 000 accounts) and the passwords may be out. There are ~2 000 currently released online somewhere, but even if your account wasn't affected I'd recommend you change your password just in case it was compromised, but not released yet.

No problem. I'm just waiting to see how Mojang handles this.

I dunno… This seems like clickbait/trolling to me on the part of whoever the supposed hacker is. You don't get passwords simply by DDOSing a server, and if Mojang had actually been infiltrated I imagine they would ask people to change their passwords.

This was actually Mineplex, not Mojang's servers.

Hmm. I know nothing about Mineplex - I assume that the two aren't integrated and therefore my own password would not be exposed because I've never used it? Either way, I suppose I will go ahead and change my password.

Also, Apemanzilla: You probably ought to specify somewhere in your post that the issue is with Mineplex, not necessarily with Mojang if that is indeed the case.

I can't find any reliable news sources posting any articles about this. Have you got a better source than some random YouTube video?

It seems to me that the posters of this video are just trying to get clicks. Their only "source" is some random tweets from someone who posted a supposed list of usernames/passwords (which were most likely just randomly generated).

Looks like this is a hoax to gain clicks. Liars don't deserve clicks, so we won't give them any further clicks if we can help it. Locked.

It never hurts to change your password, though.
