Basic computers should be able to display gray

In real life, black and white TVs display black, white, and all the grays. Why can't basic computers display grays?

Well, I think the idea is that basic computers are 'black and white', not monochromatic (which would allow for grays). However, I would welcome grays on basic computers.

A lot of time basic computers are used for anything that doesn't involve a complex interface, like a red net server. It would be nice to use some gray in the interface of the server and such to distinguish stuff like text fields.
