Might be a little bit too much to ask, but being able to use custom fonts would be pretty nice.

you can. its called a resource pack. as long as the font is made as a monospaced font, then you'll be fine.

Keep in mind though, that since ComputerCraft just uses whatever font is defined by Minecraft, that all the font you use in Minecraft (like in the chat and menus) would be changed as well.

surely someone could make a mod which lets you use a couple of different fonts and sizes… or maybe bold/italics ect? ive never made mods, but I cant see that being impossible…

I don't want to entirely change the font, I'd still want to be able to use the default Minecraft font. I suppose "character sets" would be a more appropriate title. I want to be able to create multiple character sets and switch between them.

Does anyone put something serious here?

[shameless_plug]Why don't you look at a silly
Font API? [/shameless_plug]
No, in all seriousness I don't see why it is needed, it would just end up being confusing, (Uni|Lin)ux does have a kind of bold and underline but nothing more than that… We're programmers, we should finds way to do stuff without it (or write a mod if we
really want)…
