Much to my dismay, today I found that CCEmuRedux and CCLite are no longer allowed to run on my school's computers. According to the warning I received, it is a blocked "Game". I would like the community's opinion on whether or not ComputerCraft itself is a game (not within Minecraft, but in an emulator), so I can explain to the IT technicians why it should be unblocked. Thanks!

Well, assuming you're actually speaking to the IT department within your school, they probably already know what an emulator is, and should know that it's something that should not have any adverse effects on the school's technology infrastructure.

That being said, what I bet they're trying to do is have you utilize their equipment under their terms. This means that unless you are doing school-related activities, they don't want you doing it on their machines. ComputerCraft is most likely what they consider non-school related, and blocked it so that you can focus on your studies.

Have to agree with Cranium. While it's not a game, it's still a distraction and has the exact same effect as a game.

I'd say that both "game" and "educational tool" are valid terms for it. Your case will likely hinge on whether any of your classes involve Lua.

If you really don't care about running your code in MineCraft specifically, then you really don't need a ComputerCraft emulator - any Lua interpretor will do. Personally I use repl.it for messing about and testing things, but there are lots of offline options.

School computers are for school use and, like any computers provided for you by another party, should be used in accordance with their usage guidelines. If they feel that running a ComputerCraft emulator is not a good use of school resources, that is entirely within their purview.

Locked.
