Unique IDs for peripherals

All peripherals when being used should be assigned a unique numeric (or even better char+int string) ID that will always refer to that device. (Much like computers being assigned IDs, this allows distingushing peripherals by ID.

This is already done when peripherals are connected via wired networks.

'cept for the "always" bit - network IDs can change.

only if you break the modem.

Then I mean, in all cases, and that's not forever. That's untill someone removes a modem, or uses one. I mean, next to the computer much like hardware IDs.
