It was in the beta builds for 1.6, but was incomplete or buggy and if I recall correctly, full development of it would have delayed final release of the new version, so it was removed for the time being. It may make an appearance at a later date, depending on whether or not dan200 wishes to invest the time and energy into getting it working.

Yea, those sort of programs tend to be better suited to the community for creation.
What I want to know if whether we'll see pocket.beep and/or pocket.vibrate. It was mentioned a while ago but nothing seemed to come out of it.

Yeah,personally I think th player created ones look better than that and probably perform just as good if not better, especially when you can ask the creator to add this and that whereas I think dan will have too much on his plate to deal with requests for a mail program. You should take up the challenge and code one, you never know.
