[1.4]Sabotage/Overload

I think it would be awesome to be able to overload it or so, so it kinda lights on fire and doesn't work anymore, that way you can kinda have a failsafe if someone accesses your computer that has sensitive data on it. It could also be cool if you could somehow repair it and still have the data, but very expensive.

A optional flag to turn computers that infinite loop into a brick block. :P/>/>

This would be pretty cool right?
*Someone walks into my base*
*Turns on the computer without the special disk*
*Drive burns up and the computer is on fire*
*Needs a couple diamonds to repair the drive*

Better yet, they could change the crafting recipe on the computer to require a hard disk instead of redstone. When the computer burns up, you salvage the hard disk, data intact, and use it to craft a new computer.

Problem with above, if you password protect a computer and make it burn up if the wrong password is entered, then the person that broke it could salvage & take the hard disk, repair it and have your files.

There's no reason the password couldn't stay intact like other files; however, they would still make off with your hard disk.

Maybe theres a way to COMPLETELY burn out the hard disk, or just make it cost a lot to repair it.

TNT?

TNT?
Oh gosh no. But you could wire up something like that. Maybe that other person's idea of invincible computers wasn't such a bad idea…
Posted 07 July 2012 - 02:08 AM
TNT would blow a hole in the building with it, im talking about just burning out the computer, Maybe you could do an adventure map of a Spy, and you get a message on the computer, thats important, then in 10 seconds, it sizzle out.

Or in 10 seconds, it lights a nukeTNT would blow a hole in the building with it, im talking about just burning out the computer, Maybe you could do an adventure map of a Spy, and you get a message on the computer, thats important, then in 10 seconds, it sizzle out.

i like this idea and the whole point of not useing tnt was because it would put a hole in the wall, so no nuke! :)/>/>

But… Its like self destruct. If a rival company got ahold of the comp, we just remote-light it…

I like the idea, but kind of, unneeded:
while true do
os.pullEventRaw()
end
Run that, boom, locked computer.

Until ctrl+r
Posted 22 July 2012 - 08:52 PM
Until ctrl+r
os.pullEventRaw() will also grab terminate, and reboot events, if I'm right.
Posted 22 July 2012 - 09:17 PM
os.pullEvent does that
Posted 23 July 2012 - 04:51 PM
nope. using os.pullEventRaw disables ctrl+t (the "terminate" event), but ctrl+r and ctrl+s will still work, as they are hardcoded.
Posted 23 July 2012 - 07:00 PM
then make it "catch" if CTRL is pressed and reboot

Locked? you mean brick'd right?

If you want to make the computer inaccessable but fixable, can't you just activate a piston system to push the computer down a hole? You could have the system be reverseable if you threw a switch somewhere else.

That's actually a neat idea lol, not sure if sticky pistons push/pull computers, would have to check it out.If you want to make the computer inaccessable but fixable, can't you just activate a piston system to push the computer down a hole? Edit: CAN'T PUSH PC'S WITH PISTONS :[

Darn. That might be something worth changing, if it can be done.
You could have a turtle under the computer that would collect it and run off somewhere. That seems…not quite as cool and surprising, though.

Would be difficult to change. Vanilla pistons can't push tile entities.
Posted 27 July 2012 - 05:12 AM
Ah. Perhaps you could use a turtle as your computer, and have it ascend up an inaccessable shaft.

Idea about computer detonating: move files to backup computer/file server :ph34r:/>/> Now, I need to code a passworded file server…
Posted 29 July 2012 - 12:06 PM
placing an inserter behind a computer and explosives behind that means when the computer stop's outputting IE when rebooted it tigers the explosive / trap sneaky ha

i don't see the point in stuff burning just programaticly lock stuff and if u want burning then use igniter from redpower to light ur computer on fire
Posted 23 September 2012 - 03:19 PM
Which does nothing because computers are made of stone…i don't see the point in stuff burning just programaticly lock stuff and if u want burning then use igniter from redpower to light ur computer on fire

Its not supposed to do anything its for effect if thats way u want. If u want to protect ur computer then there are better ways that are a lot more realistic like backing up onto external HD and then deleting files or just by locking ur computer. If u want to be able to blow up ur computer then there are plenty of explosive devises. The only reason i would use a mod like this is if it made computers more realistic about stuff like getting hit repeatedly by a diamond pick axe, Or way would be cool is if there was some way to do a overload with a virus that would overload the cpu so u could actually do something with viruses besides delete all root folder files and folders.
