Hello friends and fellow programming enthusiasts!

UPDATE 2 - 5/24/15 - EVEN MORE GOOD NEWS: So it seems that I am able to pay for a server, somewhat. So here's what I think is going to happen. We will have "seasons". So each new season, new map/updated modpack. A week or so before the new season we will start accepting applications again. You apply, we like you, you can join. Payment doesn't matter. However, I will have a section open for people if they want to be helpful and donate. The donations will ALL go to the SERVER. I will not be taking any of the donations for myself. Now if you'd like to join say "mid-season" then you can however you have to do a buy-in. The buy in is probably going to be like $50. This way we don't have a lot of people buying in and griefing as the cost is too high just to be banned. For the first round I think I'll accept between 10-15 players as a test run. Don't be discouraged if anyone doesn't get in as depending on the situation, timing, etc we might PM you and ask you to join :)/>. Finally, if you are not active for over a week, you will be removed and have to apply again. This is just to keep the white-list clear (yes, this is a white-listed server). There is an exception for this however. If you get sick, go on vacation, or for whatever reason, just tell us you will be away and then you are safe. Just don't want anyone going dark. There will be a skype group that only ANNOUNCEMENTS will be placed. Things such as "Server Maintenance", "Pack Updated" or even "New Player". For chat, you may either use the teamspeak or call your friends on skype in a separate group.

I also want to answer some questions real quick in the format of Question: Answer:

Can I join the server?: Sure! You will have to apply at the end of the season when the applications are open, or you will have to buy-in.
Do I have to pay to be on the server?: No, you will have to apply at the end of the season when applications are open, or you will have to buy-in.
If I don't pay will I have limited features?: No, everyone gets equal permissions, the exception being myself as I am the owner.
Can I donate?: Yes, and it is very helpful! All the donations will go straight towards the server. Your contributions help keep the server alive.
If I donate will I get anything special?: Sorry, but no. As this is a survival server you will not get anything accept a thank you note.
If I join do I have to work as a group?: Yes and No. It is encouraged that everyone has a different project or gets into groups for a project but we are all working towards the same goal.
What happens if I get caught breaking the rules?: You will be questioned and there will be a community vote. If it's minor, you'll get a warning, if it's major, instant ban with no chance of being accepted back.

Also, the leader/follower thing was just to see what kind of person you all are. Usually a person who prefers to follow is more soft spoken and stuff while a leader is more vocal and voices their ideas more.

Alright, I hope this clears any questions up. So please keep the questions coming, I'd like to get a tally on who is actually interested in joining just so I know the numbers, so if you want to participate please fill out this google form, it's only 8 yes or no questions, you will need a google account (which I assume most of you have). Thank you! Google Form: http://goo.gl/forms/GAKVi6YdYT

OLD POST:
SpoilerI'll try to keep this as short and as understandable as possible, I hope you don't mind the lack of specific details. Please, after reading if you still have questions, ask. Now onto the main info! I run a small, very small, YouTube channel and it's a lot of fun but I've always noticed that it's much easier and more fun to play with other people. I found it hard for me to sit there and do a let's play talking to myself, I'm not at that point yet I guess, however modded Minecraft has really grabbed my attention. I created a custom mod (still working on that) and a modpack that is focused mostly on automation with the main golden egg being computercraft and a whole bunch of extensions for it. The few friends I have that play pc and not console are usually really busy or don't want to play so I'm stuck alone again. I ran the server off of my main PC but if I want to open this up for more people I'd need a host. I used to host a few servers, both were relatively profitable but in the end they dwindled and died. So now I am making a poll for whether or not people would play, but not just that. As I do not currently have the funds to start paying for a server every month I figured if those who are willing and want to play can each pay a portion of the server cost. So if the server is $10 a month and we have 10 players everyone pays $1 a month. How would we accomplish the paying part? Well, I don't want you guys to pay me, it has to be a way that ensures all the funds go straight to the server bill. There is a thing call "clan pay" from the host I have my eyes on that allows for each player to pay a portion of the bill. Secondly, it must be a mature community. Meaning 15+ or not a squeaker. There are exceptions and we will allow anyone on who fits the group and interacts well together. Content creation (via twitch or YouTube) is encouraged but not required. If you join the server and grief or break any of the other rules you can be removed from the group, banned from the server, and your monthly payment will not be returned. However you will not be charged or expected to pay the next month. This means that everyone's portion will go up so we all have to have a small meeting with the rest of the group before acting upon a ban or suspension. So, the poll. How many of you are willing to join the server and help pay a portion of the server cost every month? How many of you have a mic and are willing to record or participate in recordings?

And that's about it. If we get enough people we will do "applications" to get all the info and pick as many people as we can. If we don't get enough people to keep the cost<=~$5 per person. Thanks again everyone! If you have questions, please ask. If you have ideas or see problems with this plan please point them out so I can adjust if necessary. A full mod list for the pack is coming soon, I just have to fix/update the original spreadsheet.

Here is a little form to fill out since I can't find the poll settings…:

-snip- There is now a google survey for you to do, please complete the survey. It's short! only 8 yes or no questions. It's in the updates section below.

UPDATES *NEW UPDATES*:
SpoilerUPDATE - 5/23/15: Did some searching around and I think I found the perfect host. However it is not a virtual server so if it were to happen it would be $27 a month. It would be 8GB ram so no lag issues. Since I'll get the whole PC i'll be able to host a teamspeak server for free as well as offering anyone else who needs one here a free one as well (Have to give back to the community!). This means I can also run other games/servers if we all decide to do something different together. I do however have some funds that I could pay for MOST of the server but if we had 10 players it would probably be ~2$ per player. Bad news now: There wouldn't be a clan pay system. So either everyone would have to send me money on paypal or I'll have to figure something else out. I'll work on that part. Anyway, thanks again and let's get the community off the ground! :)/>

Sounds like something I'd do. I need to either find my camera/mic or (welp) buy another one, but I'd love to be in a youtube video with my voice!

So here's my answers to the form:

Would you be willing to pay for a portion of the server cost?: <N>
Do you have a mic and are willing to speak to other players?: <Yes!> --Hells yes!
Do you have a mic and are willing to be in/create recordings?: <Soytenlie!> --Ditto!
If you had to pick a role, what would it be? <Leader> --I am no sheep!
Any comments or something to change?:
"I can't help pay for the server, mostly because I don't quite have a reliable source of income (being 15). As for
being a proclaimed leader, I simple cannot imagine myself, based on what I've experienced, following whatever
crap someone says. I love working things out in a more logical, creative way. That's not to say that, if another
leader states a sound idea, that I won't go through with it. I always love being part of a community, and if this
takes off, I might just abandon LurCraft totally."

"Oh, and my ingame name is EldidiStroyrr. My original IGN was LDDestroier, and I was going to change it
back, but Eldidi stuck. And it was funny tricking people on LuaLand that I was a new player."

EDIT: Come to think of it, I DO get an allowance of $5.00 a week, so I may be able to coax my parents into sending 1 or 2 dollar(s) a month for server upkeep, but I shouldn't get my hopes up. Oh, and when this takes off - or if - then expect me to advertize some of my programs. Like my GPS minimap, or my thing that turns all connected computers on or off at all times, or my monitor/screen 'syncing' program - or maybe my little function I made to print text that, when the cursor reaches the bottom of the screen, goes back to the top and right a certain amount.

Thank you for responding! I think that unless we have enough people who are willing to help pay for the server we wont be able to let anyone who can't pay a portion in. The leader/follower part is just to guage a little of your personality. We can't have a ton of leaders because then everyone bashes heads. We need to be a team/community server, not a game of thrones server :)/> Not saying that people who aren't "follower" minded can't join, before letting anyone in I'd like to speak with them more. Thanks again, keep em coming! :)/>

What do you mean advertise? Add your scripts to the server! That is much encouraged! I'll even give you a section on the forum post about the server in the server sub-forum if this takes off! :)/>

Really? Excellent! Someone doesn't dismiss my programs with an empty compliment!

So does you server/will your server have a whitelist, or are certain key features disabled until payment - like shareware ('freeloader' rank with no build/command perms / 'user' rank with default perms)? Because having people pay to access your server is a big turnoff for many gamers. I understand the need for money, and donations to servers isn't a new idea, but all the cool kids hosting servers are doing it with a source of income.
If your server looks good and not corruptable like LuaLand (long live), then I'll try my best to send some donation every month on PayPal. It'll take some convincing for my parents too, which may be the biggest problem, though. Best of luck to your server!
And if you want, I can edit this post to include a list of my usable programs and their forum posts. May the schwartz be with you!

If I was part of the server, I would probably record it and put it on youtube. Also I think I can spend 1 dollar a month. Advertising my programs and creations goes by itself, doesn't it?

- snip -

I play many games and have a set of MC servers? I would love to play some games and put it on YouTube, I already stream and play a lot of PS4 games, I have all the video and audio editing software and I have a new condenser microphone and a game capture card, PM me and I would love to join in :D/>

I do pay for my servers currently so yeah I can do that, I would be on mic and I would record :D/>. Also I don't care, you should never be leader etc, Be a group of friends, like KYR SP33DY and the crew as none of them are leaders, they are all different but they do a lot of games with others, but I do agree I will not be a sheep, so we can all have a laugh as friends, I can own the servers and you guys can sort what you do etc :D/>

Just did the survey! So will you be letting a few people in at first to see how things go? And if so, will you send people the IP over a private message? Because I am so willing to give this a go!

Okay, so here is the plan. I will be working on getting the server perfect. I need to work on permissions, re-doing the server/mod integration, write a custom mod (for something I wanna do ;)/> ) then I will ask for some applications. I'm hoping to get around 5-10 people. We'll see what we need to fix/change/add then we will do real applications. The trial run will run for 1 week. Then if all goes well we will restart the map, add some more people and do Season 1! Woohoo! I'll need about a week or so to finish up the server creation due to my school schedule but once it's up we should be all good!

This idea looks very interesting. Though being a part of numerous communities already I doubt I would be one that would join. You never know though.

If you need any help setting stuff up I have multiple years of experience of both running and managing servers.

– From personal experience just so you don't overpay.
If this server is only going to be a handful of people 10-50 people (which means very unlikely to ever have more then 4 on at a time). Anything more than 2 gig is overkill not to mention 8 gig. You could honestly go get a 1 gig server from a professional host for about 5$ a month, and have little to no lag (I ran a bukkit server with 80+ plugins on a half gig server averaging 5+ people on at a time with no lag, no lag meaning always at 20 tps).

edit:
Now that I reread the post, I noticed this is not going to be CC only, which in that case as long as you don't go crazy with mods (over 60) you would be fine with 2 gig.

I've ran a lot of servers and even made custom bukkit plugins and running the client on my pc takes about 3gb ram and all the other hosts I saw were running for 30$ a month anyway so I decided that I would go for a VPS instead of a host so I'll have access to the whole root of the server and that comes with 8gb and a i7-4K hyperthreaded CPU so should be no lag what so ever! :D/> I plan on running a teamspeak server on it as well so that also saves me an extra $5!
