The game is over here.

don't know what a play by post RPG is?
Basically D&D on a forum instead of around a table.

I've got part of an adventure in mind, tending towards the "sword and sorcery" or fantasy genre.

It will be a collaboratively built world, meaning that if I ask you what god your cleric worships then you can make up a god (this doesn't give you control of that god).
Additionally if your character has some kind of skill that seems unusual, I may ask you where they got it from. You could then give a brief back story of a school/institute like organisation that your character attended for several years of their life, and about how the skill in question was one of the many things they learned on the way.

The point of this post to to gauge interest, see the poll above.

I will admit that this will be a learning experience for me as I have never played a PbP-RPG but I have ran a campaign for a tabletop RPG that I play with IRL friends (we seam to have a thing where we take turns being game master).

Questions? PM me or ask below. (Preferably ask below, I'd rather not set up an FAQ)

Hey, you play robocraft too?

I doubt I'd play an RPG, but don't let me discourage you!

Yes but more of a fantasy setting compared to the scifi like one that you linked (I only scan read the first page, is it all that data exchange like?)
(could you also answer the poll please, it will make things easier when it comes to counting numbers of interested players)

I'll give it a shot.

I've played something similar set in the X-COM 'verse. It eventually died down after however many hundred pages.

I've not played (non-digital) D&D, but, um, I've read lots of Order of the Stick, and Goblins?

There was no option for played both, but played both types and have a RP forum that I manage as well, albeit it currently being rather dead

I'll update the poll options

Edit: poll options clarified

Looking at the poll results so far, 3 definite players and one maybe. Looks like I have some character creation to detail out, keep an eye on the OP.

I'm getting started on the game thread.
A character creation guide/sheet is in the works complete: https://docs.google....dit?usp=sharing
Those who have played a PbP RPG please share any tips.

I'll post the game thread tomorrow afternoon, for now the character creation and rules are done.

To those asking "why can't you post it now?" because I want to be there for the start of the story but I need to sleep (11:37pm)

The game is going to start in a village called Elarshi, please detail why your character is at this village on your character sheet feel free to start creating one and PM it to me (include RPG in the message subject). This will be a collaboratively constructed world, so feel free to make up extra locations/characters/etc for your characters back story.

Need to know when afternoon is for me? (Note: this is not an ETA) http://www.timeandda...ont=serif&csz=1

Aww, snap. I want to make a super-intelligent, cybernetically enhanced bear. He'd only have strength and intelligence augments. Would that be outside of the "world" you're planning to create?

It's a fictional, user-created world so I think it might be be possible. But I'm not the GM ^_^/>

Yeah, that's why I wanted to run it by him. I want to know what tech limitations we have in this world. I've got plans for another character without supertech stuffs, but I have a better character I want to use with tech.

I've not set any hard limits on things, tech wise we have magical robots as a player race, just be a hybrid race with smart-animal and construct (the robot).
Gnomes are the usual high tech race in fantasy, and there is a player character from another dimension.

One of the main differences in tech and magic in any fiction is how it is explained and what it looks like.

Magic tends to be (represented as) mystical and glows without proper form.
Tech however is a physical object of some form (usually made of metal and/or plastic).
You can swap these round, nano-machines which can fly in the air and glow, enchanted sword.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" - Arthur C Clarke's 3rd law

Also if this is turning into an OOC discussion thread then that's fine by me, but Lyqyd only gave me permission of one thread.

As a reminder, this is a collaboratively built world, you have as much say in it's history as I do (please avoid conflicts I don't want a paradox).

its a character, isn't it?

Well, while the character seems like it would be cool, a robot might not be the best suit for a medieval-style RPG unless it was through time travel or some such technological advances/magical powers.

Constructs are a playable race, but I defined them as magical robots. So far we have two PCs from modern-like worlds playing.

As for the technological level of the game world, I've left that somewhat unclear. Keep in mind that magic and technology are not mutually exclusive (the final fantasy series is a good example of this).
