Sorry if someone has already posted this suggestion, but I reckon that security cameras will be an awesome addition to this mod. This would be very useful for PVP servers. Just a bit of scripting and boom, you got your own control room with a bunch of monitors/computers showing your entire base, and when an intruder is caught, you could set a trap for the poor sod.

What do you guys think? :P/>/>

Awesome idea, put one of these on a turtle and see where they are going. Put it on a wall and check to see if someone is sneaking up on you.

Guess this will never get part of CC since dan wants to keep it a SMP mod and this would cause too much traffic. Maybe there can be a peripheral. But how should there be recongition? Do you really want to rea an image Pixel per Pixel?

I have seen a security camera mod before, and it wasn't great but it did show it like how you see minecraft. It would be great if it was included still.

I don't see why this would take too much network traffic - surely the majority of code would actually be Clientside?

Having said that, it isn't really scope of the mod - If a turtle peripheral system gets implemented, someone creating this is a possibility.

Yeah, would be a great addition I think.

Well, someone could do it for computers as a peripheral. They wouldn't move, but would be usefull anyway.

I was wondering this to would it be possible then i decided i would much rather have a player detector for PC's that could even read there gamer tag auto sign would be possible automatic bio metric scanning so in my opinion a player profile detector would be a lot better

Maybe but I still reckon a CCTV would be cooler.

name one use other than to watch things and people it would only be really good if it could record and you could watch it back other than that there are already tons of plugins that allow you to see what players are doing one of my favorites is spectate

Simple use: Put it on a frames machine. See from the barrel of that incredible 16-TNT howitzer. And then tell it to move.

Complicated Use: Control your digger/termite without having to get inside the drill head. . . ever.

Both of these ideas mean you either need the cameras/servers to transmit wirelessly or to have peripheral cables that can line an entire track. However, both of these would be much more useful with a camera than a player detector. And yes, you can make an automated/terminal controlled cannon on frames. It would just be huge, is all.

Also, not everyone wants to use cheaty tools that let you look through someone else's eyes. A lot of us use computercraft to do things because that is an awesome way to do it. Really, if we are going to dive head first into "there's a mod for that" territory, we can already discount computercraft entirely (there's an RP2 for that). Since I'm not, I might as well make suggestions and give good ideas (sort of) for it and its uses. </rant>

Now, an idea that combines the two would be interesting. Simply: If a player or block is directly in front of the camera, then emit a redstone pulse. Or a signal until they are moved/removed. Instant alarm.

Agreed on last section that is an idea i think we can both agree on

I don't really see how its a cheat tool, but I suppose its all down to your opinions.

I did not imply that it was a cheat. Or, I did not mean to. I meant, I want to do something in a more legit way than simply chatting "/spectate". For the same reason a player would give up using low-tier Equivalent Exchange capabilities until they had enough resources on their own, or that someone would play through Thaumcraft because they disliked Treecapitator. Or someone looking at Redpower frames and saying "I could do better with pistons". It's really just a matter of making the world feel balanced.

So yes, Spectate is a wonderful tool for admins, I would consider its use by other players a bit OP, so my earlier comment.
