It would be kind of like a modem. You would place it on any side of a computer, and then you'd be able to play sounds with it using something like a sounds api. it might be kind of crazy, but it would be cool.

You kind of can, with commands, using the command computer. Though it isn't possible in survival.

Yeah, i think it would be good in survival, because then people could make games with sound, and play them on their survival world.

I think that sort of thing falls into the domain of peripherals rather than something that should be included in ComputerCraft itself (especially because it's already been done)

The speaker would be good, because it wouldnt require any extra mods, and it could be used in the computercraft emulator the same way you could add a wireless modem.

Emulator != Computercraft

Even if a speaker is added to CC, the/an Emulator still has to implement/add it too. It won't magically appear in every Emulator (and I think emulators like CCLite would have a hard time doing so, because they can't just "steal" the minecraft sounds).

the emulator uses the actual mod file, so things like apis and functions would be in the emulator once it updates to the cc version that adds them. you can add things like disk drives, modems, etc by editing the file that has the properties of the computer. so if something like a speaker was added, you could externally add it to the emulated computer. as for the sounds, and stuff, id imagine as long as credit is given to mojang, it would be allowed. mojang is pretty nice when it comes to people using their sounds.

There are also emulators not using the mod files. Cclite for example.also I saw a web-based one too, a while back. They can't implement it that easily.

Also, just because the functions exist, doesn't mean that the peripherals work. They have to be modified so they work in the emulated environment.
