This (plus the forum guidelines) is linked at the top of all the forums:

Would it still be helpful to report the things described in the announcement, or ….?

I'm sorry for hijacking, but it's somewhat related and I don't think it deserves a separate thread:

Do we need to actually report anything? Does it "help" the moderators? Or do they notice bad stuff quickly anyway?

No problem, and great point, it seems like the only use for the button is to tell mods when we want one of our own posts locked.

Of course, its possible that it gets used all the time for reporting malicious content, and most forum members don't know about it.

Reporting things that you believe require moderator attention is definitely helpful. We don't always see everything, so more eyes is always a good thing. Any posts that do not fit within the forum guidelines or are otherwise useless/unconstructive would likely be worth reporting.

Also, yes, the report system does see a fair bit of activity, and we are usually quite rapid in dealing with reports.

Good to know.

Sometimes, I'll see short posts like the ones described in the announcement as 'useless',
but I'm hesitant to report them since that was enacted in 2012, and I wasn't sure if anything had changed.
