Advanced Items Recipe Change

tl;dr: Adjust the recipes to make advanced items upgrades from basic items

Long version: Please adjust the recipes for advanced computers, advanced turtles, and advanced pocket computers to be the grey versions wrapped in gold (either crafted with 8 gold ingots around the outside or crafted with a gold chestplate; your choice, dan200).

If the diamond level of items suggested in another thread on this forum is implemented, please make recipe be the gold version wrapped in diamonds.

If a computer/turtle/pocket computer is already named, this would keep the existing settings on the device and upgrade it to the next level as the user finds resources.

The main benefit of this is that users can start with a regular-level item and upgrade it without losing their programs or changing the computer ID.

I know that that can be configured with recipe adjustment mods but this is something that, in my mind, makes sense for default CC.

CCTweaks adds a computer upgrade item that functions similarly to what you are suggesting. I'd love to see it implemented in normal CC, but it has been suggested before and nothing came out of it.

Oh, an advanced turtle could be made with two different recipes: a standard turtle wrapped in gold or an advanced computer used in a turtle recipe.

Thanks! I wouldn't worry about repeating it, it was over a year ago now and suggestions vanish quite quickly on the forums.

Pretty sure the first item I implemented in CCTweaks was the computer upgrade - back when it was a tenth of the size it is now. *nostalgic bliss*.

You could use minetweaker to change the recipe, if it really bothers you.

Yes, I know. Would MineTweaker be able to keep the computer ID (and existing programs) when upgrading? If not, that's one of the main reasons to have this built in to CC.

No, I don't think MineTweaker can do that.

Its certainly an interesting idea for CC, if it does get implemented, I hope dan keeps the original recipes as well.
