Black screen on a 8x6 monitor

When I create an 8x6 monitor, suddenly it stops working completely. This includes when I resize the screen back to something like 4x4. I tried peripheral.isPresent("back"), it returns true. when I write to it, nothing appears on the monitor, and I can't get it to work again. I have to break it apart and rebuild it.

I'm on a Direwolf20 1.7.10 server, but I want to point out that it's the same for singleplayer.

This is a well known bug, change the text size to something else and then back to whatever you want it to be.
