Dark gray X button near View New Content link

If you hover your mouse just below (and to the right of) the View New Content link on the main forum page, there is a dark gray button with an X that shows up. I've noticed this a few times and keep forgetting to ask if anyone knows what this button does or has been brave enough to click this button and find out what happens.

"Brave enough"? I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to put a button to delete the forums (or something) that's accessible by everyone.

It just expands the view, that's all.

It's not even related to the view new content button. If you pay attention, you can see it's just at the corner of the "content space".
