I don't know why no one's mentioned this, but the computercraft forums are locked off because of Captcha not working…

We know. Dan200 is the only one who can fix it and he isn't responding to queries from the community nor the mods.

That's why computercraft.cc exists.

Ironically, it looks like sign-ups over at that new site are broken too: no verification mails are hitting my email account.

Check your spam if you haven't already; my verification went straight there when I signed up.

Har har, but it turns out the servers were simply tardier than most - I figured half an hour would be the upper limit on such things, but they actually took a couple of hours to come through.

Glad to hear it all worked out!

I believe there are pros and cons to this

Pros
  • Newer users will be forced to use lua by themselves or look at old topics instead of opening topics that have already been answered, maybe use stack-overflow (which has less tolerance for new users, at least a few years ago
Cons
  • The community will die down, also less CC updates

Yes, but that's not near the top of search, it is not very good in UI, and there are <100 users

It's definitely a long way from perfect, but the admins have generally been pretty good at responding to user feedback. I know they've resolved several of the complaints I had pretty quickly. There's not a lot of users, nor content right now, but that's inevitable as it's a pretty new site.

As far as discoverability goes, it's definitely an issue. I think that's something which will only improve as time moves forward though, if people do migrate. The last thing one wants is to fragment the community across multiple forums. However, on the flip side, given that Dan hasn't responded to this issue since it started 6 months ago, I don't know how long we can expect this site to remain sustainable. Neither seems entirely satisfactory.
