[1.41] Turtles can't place "lily pads" (on water)

The changelog for version 1.41 in the wiki states (here), that:
"Turtles can now use turtle.place() with any item the player can, and can interact with entities"

But turtles cannot place "lily pads" on water source blocks (nor in front or down)!
"turtle.place(Down)()" with a "lily pad" in the selected slot will return "false".

Is this intentional? Are there any other impossible placements? I'll keep my eyes open!

P.S.: This (if it would work) could be useful to detect water and distinguish it from lava etc.!!

Isn't the function called "turtle.placeDown()"?

Is your turtle directly over the water? If so, you need to go up one more level, since the lily pad counts as an entire block, even though it's flat.
