Hello,
last night I was wondering about PDAs in Minecraft. I think PDA's in form as often suggested here is overpowered, so I thinked about how we can make PDA, what isn't overpowered.
My idea needs one new block and one new item. Block can be called something like "Service kit", "Programmer"… It will be for flashing PDA. The item will be - of course - PDA.
PDA's display could be shown like map is - you just catch it in your hand and it will open. For turning it on, you have to mouse rightclick. For power down, same.
As bonus, there can be function like "pda.beep()", what will change item icon in inventory, so player will can be warned that he have to check his PDA. PDA must have wireless modem in it - without it, it's a little bit useless.
Programmer will act like disk drive - you will take PDA in it and it will be mounted as directory into computer. Then you can copy your program here.
There can be functions like "programmer.setLabel()" for setting PDA's label etc.
If you ask, how can be this used, I'm thinking about pocket controller of engines/reactors temperature, GPS with real navigation (turn left, now right, go back, recalculating :D/>/>) etc.
