I've been using Computercraft for a week or so, and I found it amazing, been using it a lot with lasers/rp2/railcraft/BC/IC2/whatever, but I noticed it has very few ways to "get informations" from the world by itself.
Buildcraft gates and Laser/Railcraft sensors do a great job of providing it, but especially for BC interfacing with Computercraft takes a lot of space.
Gates can get a lot of info, but a lot of space is needed to convert from gates/pipewires to RP2 bundled cables and then to Computercraft, that makes the size of the system increase tenfold or make them almost impossible to create.
Would it be possible for Computercraft to connect directly with pipewires? Or just detect pipewire signals in an adijacent space? (Like it does already with RP2 cables)

Pipe wire signals are on pipes only.
But understanding all those statuses directly would be quite better as now IC2 provides it to BC gates too.

I do know that pipe wire signals are just on pipes, I was thinking along the lines of some "interface" pipe or gate, dunno a usb-like "pipe plug" block or maybe a gate that sends out equivalent color RP2 wire signals.
I really just care about the result (being able to interface with pipe signal receive/send and as a consequence with BC2 gates to gather all the info about chest, IC2 machines, tanks, machines, etc) how it's implemented it's a choice that I'd leave to dan200 to do and to how he feels it would best fit his idea of the addon.

I like this idea. I they were able to get a API for bundled cables(RP2) to connect to CC computers they should be able to get pipe wires to connect to computers. also the makers of BC should be more likely to cooperate as there isn't competition between them and the makers of CC like there is with the makers of RP (as RP has computers of its own). and I would love for an easy way to use the sensors on pipes with the logic on the computers, and really it shouldn't need a interface just a stone pipe (the kind used for structure and pipe cables only not for transport) connected to the back of a computer just like how a bundled cable to the back connects.

It seems best way to connect BC info to CC program is making a Peripheral Gate or any Gate to become a Peripheral. And this should be done on BC side probably.

What is so difficult about making four gates as interface, and connecting them to your computer with normal redstone?

its just bulky and ugly when it shouldn't be too hard for a proper interface to exist

Yes, it should be. CC is not a "cheat" mod.

How is compacting 4 nonprogrammable gates and some redstone cheating?

I'm not saying that it's "cheating", just that CC is about making it so you can do things that otherwise wouldn't be possible in minecraft, it isn't just about making what is already readily possible easier. This is purely a "make this easier" suggestion. I have no objection to cheating, or to mods that exist entirely to make the game easier. It's just not what CC is about.

I mentioned Peripheral Gate because it is the only way to enlist current BC conditions. And they can be more than just four.

Do you build a redstone computer for your door lock?

No. I build a fake entrance that just leads to a certain death trap and my real entrance is entirely secret…and doesn't have a lock at all.
However, to answer the question that is probably being attempted here, I also don't restrict my computers and turtles from interacting with blocks and stuff that are not provided by CC. I have both tale of Kingdom and Millenaire installed, as well as MCA. But I'm not here suggesting that CC should add interactions with villagers and the ability to go on quests and stuff.
