Redpower no longer updated?
Started by Lachee, 13 November 2012 - 03:34 PMPosted 13 November 2012 - 04:34 PM
I have downloaded ComputerCraft and I'm loving it. But i want to expand it with Redpower bundled cables but i can't seem to find it (the latest anyway). Is there a Redpower for Minecraft 1.4.2? I have been searching every where but all i find is suspicious looking downloads or Redpower for 1.2.5.
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Awesome, thank you for replying. Can't wait for it to be finished. By the looks of the highest legit build it has (1.2.5), it has a big jump to get into 1.4.2.

If you ask me, eloramm is chucking a spaz because ComputerCraft is beating her sh**ty computers in popularity. It hopefully will be updated - I want a proxy server xD

I think you meant this jokingly, but for any noobs in the thread don't be too quick to shy away from Redpower computers. They simulate lower level functions for people who want to learn lower level languages. They're actually kind of fun to play around with :P/>/> Completely different from ComputerCraft. If you ask me, eloramm is chucking a spaz because ComputerCraft is beating her sh**ty computers in popularity.

redpower's last release was for 1.2.5 there was progress in porting to 1.3.2 then 1.4.2 came along ant through that back. there will be no 1.3.2 releases but one for 1.4.x might happen the wen is harder to pin down.

I just wish we could get a status update. I bet she is already bombarded with "When is RedPower gonne be updated, huh?" kinda questions though. But hopefully it's soon. I wonder if she'll add a practical use for Tungsten.

It would be nice but remember these moders do it in there own time when they have the motivation to do it. eleoramm has coped a lot of crap from the community and that can be very demotivating.I just wish we could get a status update. I was playing 1.2.5 yesterday day to test something as you can move computers disk drives wifi modems and monitors all while still being connected. so you can have a monitor move down from the ceiling and it would keep the information that has been printed on it. very cool.
One project I have been considering is a Space ship vs Ground map.
You would be part of ether the ground team or the space team and would have to defend against attack from ICBM missiles. ICBM mod is compatible with CC so you can control missiles and silos from the bridge use turtles to move missiles from storage into launch tubes. if Rail guns get the same CC control you could use them to intercept missiles. all power would come from a IC nuclear reactor so if your enemy hits the right tubes the ship may over lead and go nuclear. The space ship would have teleporters activated by swipe card and run by command block allowing you drop to the surface also you could be beamed out by requesting that and someone locking you signal then beaming you again command blocks would be actually doing this. the ship would have obsidian shields on farms that could close over the bridge for protection. the ship would have automatic farms and food dispensers run from nematic pipes. doors would open with swipe card so if you are boarded you defend and they will have to use explosives to open doors. automatic hull repair turtles would deploy to restore atmosphere so you can get into damages arrears and fix coolant pipes rp wires for door control's and lighting / firing TNT cannons.
That would be a huge project but also cool as hell. the problem is all those mods would be to be update with MC for it to work.

You think Elo's biggest concern is the computers in RP? The mod is WAY bigger than that. Way bigger than CC. Plus, RP Control (the title for her computers) serves a very specific purpose. She wanted it to be a *real* computer in the game. It emulates a modified motorola 6502 processor. It's a lot of fun to learn assembly language for and try to code an OS. In fact… I'm going to try to see if i can get that C compiler for it working now. Thanks bye.

When you say something like that, you better define what "big" is. Because I can clearly state computercraft is better in a number of vital ways:[snip]
Way bigger than CC.
[snip]
- Turtles.
- An public API, so that dozens of smaller mods have already been developed by the community. The stuff this adds is huge.
- Allow new programmers to learn programming and do something useful with it.
Computercraft can also replace many of the functions of RP. Turtles can move and sort and craft items at least as intelligently as a tube system, if not more. The electricity system exists mainly to make this function and to add a fuel cost of some sort, which turtles have as well now. The only things that RP has that CC does not are microblocks, decorative blocks, (which are not particularly important in my mind, but ymmv) and frames, which I will be the first to admit are awesome.
So yes, RP Control serves as a pretty neat environment to learn assembly programming. And I agree with you that Elo probably is not do upset by CCs popularity, as her exploits using it on DireWolf20's stream have shown.

[snip]I would also say it is better in that it gets ported quickly, but that would be unfair, because Elo is distracted with playing with computercraft right now, which is understandable :)/>/>. (<– this is a joke)

RP's goals and CC's goals are completely different. I can't call one better than the other cuz that's like saying my car is better than your fruit. But when i say "bigger" i actually mean "bigger". There's way more that RP has to do. All the ridiculous amount of wiring and the h4x1ng that's done with micro blocks and all the machines and so much more. RedPower's purpose is to be able to do a lot - but also to make the user have to *work* to get it done. Wanna build a quarry? You have to build a frame machine to move a frame machine to move a frame machine to move a lot of block breakers to dig the landscape out.
ComputerCraft's purpose is not to provide all that. It is to do a lot - but with less. Building a quarry requires you to program a turtle. It's just a different kind of difficult. CC wants you to program while RP wants you to build.
And the reason I pointed out that RP is just bigger is because that's the reason it takes forever to port it. There's a lot to port. Plus she does some crazy stuff with the coding to allow for micro blocks and all the frames stuff. It's not at all surprising that an update like 1.3.2 that completely changes the core parts of MC would stump Elo for a while.
Point is: Don't be bashing RP. It's a wonderful mod that does a lot and is not a competitor to CC. I actually really like using CC alongside RP because of how much easier the computers are.

I honestly can't wait for an RP for 1.4.x. It's a very nice mod, and I've used it for several purposes (Decoration, Wiring, etc.). The wires make it so much easier to create a simple control console for your entire house, then control everything from there (Lighting, Fountains, Doors, etc.). I'm fine without RP, I just love the extra stuff you can do WITH it. Makes the game that much different.
Also, ElvishJerricco, I 100% agree with your post above. CC does want you to program - RP wants you to build. I never could figure out how to make the quarry machine work…

I can't stand being without RP :)/>/> Buildcraft's item transport system isn't close to as competent… I play MC to build enormous machines and systems and RP is a big part of that. I miss it
