What type of server would YOU like to see?

Hi, allow me to introduce myself (Since I mostly browse the forums, not post), I'm Russell (Richardson), a tech enthusiast, a (Novice) Java programmer, a (noob) lua programmer. From what I've seen, people want a ComputerCraft server with various options. Why not let these options come true? So I've took it upon my self to create a server that the majority of people on here want to play on. In the poll you'll notice a few options, and those options will determine the main structure of the server when I see that new votes stop coming in. If anyone has any ideas they'd like to add on, speak up now :)/>

Please note that some options will have diverse effects, for instance, a non-whitelisted up to date server will not have a Bukkit port (At the moment) which means more griefing is possible (Especially if creative mode becomes the gamemode).

Yeah, this is more suited to the General section, as there is no server YET.
I think just a few mods would be nice. I would really, REALLY like for RP2 to be updated, but we don't know when Eloraam will be making that change. It seems lately on these forums a decision between whether we want RP2 or if we want Colors and stuff. I don't want to have to choose!!!!

I think having mods would be really cool, and maybe some peripherals, but I /really/ wish RedPower was updated. Though I understand that it's a big mod and that probably almost every aspect of it was broken with the 1.3.2 update, from what I've heard, it'll be out "Soon™" but I guess only time will tell.

As for the poll: Very interesting results, from what I can tell, the server won't be whitelisted (If results don't change on the poll), will be the latest version of Minecraft and ComputerCraft, and the last two options are tied.
A little off topic, but Cranium, your SmartPaste program looks really cool! I think that's a program that'll have to be installed on the server/all the computers. :)/>

I like this concept… You seem to explain things very well and I like the mixture of democracy and commerce (the more we like your server, the more people will be on, the better for you). :)/> I'll be sure to check it out once it's up and running!

(I do too :D/>) I'll be going off the options of the poll, and the poll is tied at the moment.. Same with the use of peripherals. I guess we'll see what it all comes down too! I want this to be a server that the community has input to, so if there continues to be a tie then I'll probably make it a random choice with random.org (Can't really do that with peripherals though until people start posting which ones ;)/> )

I would like to see a server like the ForgeCraft server. A server with a good community and some mods(possibly a custom made modpack). I think this would be the ideal server for most players.

Way to think outside the box, I couldn't agree more with you! I've been dreaming of something like this since Pahicraft. A custom mod pack server would be really cool, and from what I've seen, most of the people active on the forums (can't judge the lurkers :P/>) are trustworthy.

Though I think it would be pretty cool to see this happen, anyone else have any thoughts? Something like this would probably have to be whitelisted unless I or someone else could maybe write a server mod so that people who are added onto a list could modify / interact with the server..

A whitelist is a must! A server is not that good without a whitelist due to the players being afraid of getting their items stolen by griefers. I would also suggest a Teamspeak or Mumble server to communicate.

Oh how I have gotten griefed sooooo many times before I just stopped playing Modded SMP…

I actually do have TeamSpeak's server downloaded, I just haven't set it up or port forwarded it haha.

I for one love this idea, and would love to see everyone else's input on it too.

i prefer survival whitelist ( or just small ) with people i met on steam or these forums
we dont have any peripherals yet, we will probably get some after we get our hacking den set up

Personally not a fan of peripherals. Too much stuff to work with. My tiny (yet massively intelligent ;)/>) mind cannot keep up with them… :P/>
