I love the idea of CC, but I have looked at LUA and I think that Python is a much easier language to learn. I think that CC should have the ability to eigther make a computer Python compatible (suround computer/advanced computer/turtle with a block (stone brick) you would be able to use Python as a programming language.
This is not overpowered, it opens up CC to more people who actually program (people use Python a lot more than Lua). Python is also easier to read.
I think that many people find this useful.
Please comment and critique.

I would love Java support, but the Devs repeatedly say that it won't be added.

Nah, Lua is here to stay. Not going to change our language, or add it as an option - Lua isn't bad at all.

There are many things wrong with that. The major thing being that Java is a compiled language.

I hear what you say but python is a bit more powerful than Lua, and also doesn't need to be compiled. Lastly, if you don't add it would it be possible to have a way for other people (Addon makers) to make an addon for a new language?

A language api would be awesome, if unlikely.

I doesn't really matter what language CC is someone will always say it should be language x, x is better in every way you can make flying pink ponies with x. I think x should be in CC. Lua is the language chosen it is your choice to accept that or not but please don't suggest more / different languages unless you are going to implement them your self in your own mod.
for the record I can remember these being asked before
C,C++,C#,python,ruby,pascal,BASIC,assembly
If dan added ever one of them developing this mod would be a nightmare.

Lua is very powerful if you give it a chance.
And also doesn't need to be compiled.
Yes, I was talking about Java.

No. We will never support users putting their own language in. That would be an absolute nightmare to maintain for us, and others.

Please append Brainf*ck to the list, just for me ;}
In seriousness I have to agree, a "real programmer" (if one dares to use such a term) simply knows only how to program, the language used is irrelivant. The same concepts and logic translate equally between all of them.
We all have our comfort zones, but one should be able to step out of them when needed and emerge a better person for it in the end.

There's nothing stopping anyone from writing a Python interpreter in Lua.

Make a Python interpreter yourself, 'nuff said.

Damn, dlcruz. Your signature is huge. :P/>
Edit: On-topic: Cloudy, I support your reasoning behind no language API. Perhaps dan could create a computer mod framework? Or is it too language-specific? (My computer mod isn't started because the language isn't finished yet xD)

Yeah, it is. But I don't want to move the CommuteOS ad into the spoiler, and I want to help Mecha take over the world, so…

I noticed your sig encourages others to put that into your own signature, but it implies the os thingy only.
Any objections if I borrowed the last line of your spoiler sig, slightly modified? I can't recall how many times I've wanted to scream at the over entitled "screw you, i'm not your trained monkey"

I'd REALLY love to see Python added, as a config option or not.
For being a programmer for ten years and being pretty skilled in Python, it rocks.
Would it hurt anyone if both would be accessible? I don't really see why. Then people would choose the one they want. Period. Freedom.
Thanks in advance a lot <3

Holy thread necromancy batman!
This isn't going to happen. Adding support for another language, while possible, would mean maintenance of both languages - and I for one have no interest in Python in CC, and I don't think dan200 does either.
Thread closed.
