Can it be made so that there can not be two terminals of the same ID? Or that computer's ID is not stored in its damage value? Because in SMP you can use hacks to get yourself a computer with the desired ID and do everything with the target. I have seen this happen and I don't see a way to prevent it. If it's not fixed, all lock computers are basically useless since you can tell them to do everything you want…

EDIT: another idea: read-only floppies. useful for startups/valuable data. and unaccessible for modification after writing

Pretty sure you need creative mode to do this…

I've seen hacks used on the bukkit server I play where players have been able to alter damage values on inventory items, alter tool enchants and force themselves into creative mode. So it can be done, but that is what banning users is for.

Altering damage values is still hacking and therefore against the rules of most servers

true, but this hack is capable of dealing enormous damage to entire server, not just in-game. I would really like to have read-only disks.

How about Disk Drive unable to write info if got RS signal? This way you can force any disk in it to be read only. RS signal can be provided by comp or separately by switch for example.

You need creative mode to duplicate pc's, but you need to switch from survival to creative , you need OP Or /give rank to spawn computers , meaning admins are the only people able to do it.

There is a glitch to switch block ids, in survival a user can do it with a redstone torch and water

It also involves pistons. Computers and Turtles are TileEntities and as such cannot be pushed by pistons.
