Saplings change their metadata over time when they grow. Turtle.compare doesn't work anymore then, because it thinks, it is another sapling.

This will be fixed eventually with the planned turtle.compare() improvents.

Please don't reply if you have no idea what you're talking about.sapplings use random ticks not metadata .-.
it would only return false if its a different type of sappling

Any news on this bug? Using the version in the Feed the Beast Unleashed mod pack still failes to compare saplings reliably. Or is it fixed in version 1.55 for Minecraft 1.6.2?

No news, and it isn't really a bug - just a limitation of how the compare command works.
