Not too much, just some clothes. But I did get some quality time with mom, which TBH is all I really care about.
My entire family is down to just four of us so its not like when I was younger, and I make over twice what my mom does and can't stand the thought of her going into debt just to get me gifts.
But I got her a grocery gift card and a new TV (she was still using a tube set (!))

Now if only target sold raspberry pi's..

Do you have a Microcenter in your area? They just started selling them a couple weeks ago. I picked up Pi #3 on an impulse there.

Dell is amazing. Their build quality and pricing are excellent (find me another i7 with GeForce 650M (that's not Lenovo, they suck)) and they're quite reliable. Besides which, THIS LAPTOP IS A F***ING BEAST.
Considering the Core 2 Duo was a Macbook Pro from early 2008, with a dead battery and screwy cooling, I consider this an enormous leap. I've never even used an i7. Or had a GeForce… anything higher than a 8600M. So… Whoosh. Also, anyone else notice how long Visual Studio takes to install? :/
Sammich Lord #33
Posted 28 December 2012 - 02:42 AM
Visual Studio is a huge package. Normally C# 2010 takes about 5-10 minutes but if you are installing all of them(Web, Visual Basic, C#, C++) it can be quite a long time.
Mads #34
Posted 29 December 2012 - 01:29 AM
Solution: Don't use C#. Also, use Code::Blocks!

it is incredibly addicting.

I got a Logitech G510 and G600 gaming mouse and keyboard, a Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme liquid CPU cooler, assorted gift cards in small amounts, and a LEGO Pirate of the Carribean set (I am 19. I'll probably assemble it and never touch it again, but it'll be fun!).

What's wrong with C#? Visual Studio can take a long time to install, it's a huge package. Count on 30 minutes, and you'll be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't take that long. But then you'll have to install a service pack most likely and that'll take longer than the initial install (And if you're lucky it'll automatically start the service pack while you're in a game and cause crippling lag. That has happened to me twice with service packs from various products. Even more if you count just web browsing, even that can be a pain while something is installing a service pack.) Also, you'll need at least Windows 7 SP1 if you don't alrady have that installed.

C# is not cross-platform, which is almost the biggest sin(except for closed-source) between open-source programmers.

If you bought Visual Studio to code cross-platform, you fail.

It is not cross-platform? Also, Unity 3D has support for: C#, Boo and JavaScript and can be run on many different platforms. Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, webplayer and Flash are all supported in Unity 3D Version 4. Unity 3D pops out the file format for all systems from the same project. I can code a whole game in C# and export it to all the devices listed above in a matter of minutes.
