This is by far the best type of 'hacking'. Social Engineering. Taking advantage of someone's stupidity….

*sigh* I worry about the world sometimes. I mean come on… "Valve employees will never ask for your username and password over MSN. Oh hey, I'm a Valve employee… what's your username and password? Oh yeah and while you're at it why don't you give me your other personal information as well?" What's next? Credit card number?

I bet he would have given it anyway. He was probably about 13 or 14 from the way he bitched and moaned about his violation.

now you need a 5 letter verification code in order to log in :3

"Good. Now I need you to open your email, and tell me the verification code in your email."

That changes nothing. If someone's dumb enough to give out their password, they're dumb enough to give out that too.

EDIT: Just noticed this little gem: "hmmm maybe a keylogger on you r pc then maybe you need a format?" lol… Do people still seriously think you have to format every time you get a virus?

'It depends on the virus. I'm generally VERY careful, so if I DO get a virus, it's a doozie. So yes, I usually need to reformat when I get a virus.
D3matt #21
Posted 15 January 2013 - 05:42 PM
There are pretty much no viruses that can't be removed without a format. It takes a lot of patience, but it can be done. Live boot disks are a wonderful thing.

Probably, but the way I see it it's easier to just format as I have all of my data on the cloud. Actually it's easier to just avoid opening anything remotely suspicious and make good use of frequent virus scans. XD

Microsoft Security Essentials and lots of secure S3 storage. Also Dropbox, because Dropbox is good.
Scans every day at 2AM. Never gotten a virus, never slows down my computer when I'm on at 2AM. (See: Friday-Monday)

Yup. Oh and sandbox. I sandbox anything that could be remotely suspicious when I open it. Works like a charm :)/>

What do you use to sandbox? A desktop VM?

I think decompiling everything is overkill. Besides, unless you're really, REALLY good, you won't be able to identify hidden malicious code anyway.

I don't decompile everything. Just anything suspicious.

man dropbox is amazing and all but my work got screwed by it. daily scans? meh…. infected half the clients in the country with morto lol, it was everywhere, every PC. when it first came out not even Kaspersky got it… assrape. I trust online storage that periodically scans, when it auto synchs you're asking for trouble, unless you just got it on 1 PC

I use sandboxie, which as you might imagine is considerably easier and faster than a VM. And yeah, decompiling code for anything suspicious? Why even risk it in the first place? That must be one hell of a process, having to go through that much code and looking for malicious, cleverly disguised snippets.

Yeah, this is old and most likely fake.

What, you doubt the stupidity of the human race? I had thought you were more of a realist, Cloudy xD
