Compatibility with IBCM EMP
Started by MudkipTheEpic, 25 January 2013 - 08:22 AMPosted 25 January 2013 - 09:22 AM
Hi! The title says it all, but I was wondering if this could be possible? If not, maybe just for limited use, like restricting turtle movement. Thoughts?

I don't even know what that is.

Mod that lets you launch rockets to attack other people
One of the rocket classes is an EMP that knocks out power to machines. I think it uses Universal Energy Mod, it may knock out IC2 as well but I'm not certain.
Either way, there is no support for it here, If the ICBM author wanted to add support for CC they could, but CC isn't going to try be 'compatible' with other mods, especially small time ones like ICBM.

EMP(Electro-magnetic Pulse) is something within the ICBM mod that disables electronics. It is one of the explosives avalable. I think he is suggesting adding something to check when ICBM is installed, and if so, when it receives damage via EMP, it would disable computers or turtles. I don't see how it would be implemented, but I do see the reasoning.I don't even know what that is.

Well, restricting turtles to move would be quite hard for Calclavia (the ICBM author) to implement through the standard CC API. And the ICBM API isn't that useful to react on EMP's as well (I've been playing with writing mods for ICBM, it basically only allows adding bombs and rockets. Also, all variable names in the source code are in Japanese :P/>; to avoid stealing, is what Cloudy told me once ). So I'm not sure how you'd do it implementation wise. Calclavia could at most temporary set the turtle's fuel level to zero (I think, I don't know the CC API by hearth), but that doesn't seem like a consistent solution to me (turtle could still turn etc.) Or he could turn all computers off and on again, but that seems a bit too extreme to me…

Ehh… Just an idea.
I was thinking when an EMP was somehow *detected to be detonated*, Java would tell the computer to not respond to events for the duration of the EMP.

As I said, I believe it would require both mod authors to make adjustments. I could be totally wrong though. Also haven't checked the ICBM API in a while, might have changed. Because the EMP is a ICBM feature, I guess it's not ComputerCraft's responsibility to implement it. I'm not sure in fact; it's up to the devs to decide such things.Ehh… Just an idea.

I h ave no interest in this.

CC do not use UE, IC2 or any other form of electro-magnetic power. It use signaling properties of RedStone Dust and different fuel sources. No need to stop any CC activity while RS circuits and Furnace keep working.I have no interest in this.

Yeh I don't think this is very practical, from playing around with ICBM lately its not an overly useful mod, its just there to blow the hell up out of your world, that isn't a shared goal with CC. And also as Sebra stated, the most that CC computers interact with is redstone and turtles also with fuel sources, so should replicate the effect of the EMP on the furnace, not electronic.
Side note: Another type of EMP in ICBM was the EMP tower not just the missile. Everyone kept missing that. :P/>
A large amount of all Calclavia's mods are already added as peripherals. EXTREMELY dodgy peripherals, like 9/10 will crash your code even though its perfect, but peripherals none the less.If the ICBM author wanted to add support for CC they could
