<= and >= help

I'm sure this is a really dumb question, but I see <= and >= in some programs and ,for the life of me, I can't figure out what it means. I don't know if it is something that has to do with Lua or some simple math symbol that I am forgetting. If someone would kindly tell me what this means that would be great!
