Problem solved, thanks!
Hello, I'm a teacher and I privately purchased Minecraft today because I thought ComputerCraft would be a nice way to introduce my students (15-16 year old) to programming, among other things.. Previously I was using JavaKara for that purpose but I'd like to try something new!
However, I was unable to get ComputerCraft to work. Here's what I did:
1. I downloaded the Minecraft.exe launcher 1.1.2 from minecraft.net and ran it. It runs version 1.6.2 just fine.
2. I downloaded the recommended minecraft forge installer (file is called: minecraftforge-installer-1.6.2-9.10.0.789.jar), ran it and clicked "install client". It said that it installed correctly and I see that there is a new folder called "1.6.2-Forge9.10.0.789" in my /.minecraft/versions folder.
3. I downloaded the latest ComputerCraft called "ComputerCraft1.55.zip" and created a new folder /.minecraft/mods where I put the zip (did not unzip it).
4. I forgot to change my user profile, see http://imgur.com/8aULHHM
5. I launched Minecraft.exe again and started a new flat map in creative mode.
Once I was in creative mode I did not see any computers in the item menu and was unable to craft a floppy disk or any other thing in creative mode. I conclude from this that it didn't install correctly.
Please tell me what I did wrong.
(If you're currently about my teaching activity I'm currently looking into this and if I judge it to be as good as JavaKara I'll ask the school for the money to purchase all the minecraft licences via MinecraftEdu. Should this get through I'd also donate 10% of what we'll spend on the licences to computercraft. I won't upload my course material here though because it will be in german and I don't think anyone will be intersested in that. I can say though that I'd also like to use Minecraft to introduce my students to basic digital circuits because you can build and gates, or gates etc as well as latches and flipflops. Through MinecraftEdu I might even find other ways to use minecraft in the classroom.)
Thanks for your help!
Edit:
Thanks for your help! Yes it was a very small problem indeed. I was not aware that you had to select the user profile as seen in the image I uploaded under point 4.
I must say that I'm amazed at how many responses I got, I didn't know that the ComputerCraft community was that active!
For those of you who asked about to course material, I usually start the programming and boolean logic section in the second half of the semester, so I won't rewrite most of it until then. I haven't looked into ComputerCraft enough to know whether I'll really be using it, but if I do it will be based on what can be found here: http://www.swisseduc.ch/informatik/karatojava/kara/materialien.html
