Hello
My son is a minecraft addict. He plays using a Macbook. There are two things he wants to do:
1) Add mods.
We've followed You Tube tutorials but it doesn't seem to be working and I don't know why.
2) Create a closed world to play with his two friends who live in another town.
As I understand we need to create a server. Again I've followed tutorials to the letter with no success.
I'd like to surprise my son and make his day by getting this up and running and the only way I can think of doing it is by hiring an expert so sort it out for us.
Please get in touch if you can help.
Many thanks.

Okay, look. This is a computer craft forum. So please keep it computer craft related.
1) If you want to add mods then I am not sure how. I use Linux, pc and mac or overrated ^_^/>
2) Look up Log me in Hamachi or if you are lazy
https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/download.aspx
Download the free version.
Then have your son create a network.
After that have his friends join the network.
Then you want to have your son start up a single player world, and open to lan.
Now his friends can enter his Hamachi IPv4 address into the server (multiplayer) part of minecraft to join,

This is a forum about the use of a particular MineCraft mod, not so much MineCraft itself.
I would suggest using one of the Feed the Beast packs, which include large selections of pre-installed mods (which for the most part are the ones you'll want, whether you know it or not). Because of compatibility issues, this often means you don't get access to all the most recent versions of those mods, but unless only one mod interests you this is a small price to pay. The idea is that you
download the client launcher (which I'd assume would be the jar version, for a Mac), then when you run it, simply select the pack you want and it'll download and run it for you. Unleashed is a good start.
Once you've got the modded client running,
then look into the server side of things.
Here is a good place to ask if you get stuck.

Thanks to both of you for your advice.
