Where are HTTP requests fired from?

Are they fired from the server or the client?

I think everything is done by the server. the client only displays everything the server tells him.

^That's right, all code's run server-side on both singleplayer and multiplayer.

Of course. It has been for many versions. That's where the "Shutting Down Internal Server" screen comes from when you exit a singleplayer game.
