so my problem is that i cant seem to use the rs.setBundledOutput() at all and i think its because of the cable not correctly connecting to the computer
it seems to think it is a normal redstone device and in doing so puts the colors on the connection between the computer and the cable i cant seem to get the rs.setBundledOutput() to work is this a know problem?

What version of ComputerCraft are you using?
Please note that version 1.6+ has no MFR support at all.

Hope I dont derail too much, but is there any idea on when/if the bundled cable support will be back? The lack of it is rather a deal breaker for me, so forced to stick to earlier versions myself.

To make it simpler Bundled cable support has been moved to an API, as opposed to dan implementing support for each cable item separately. This is so that any mod with a bundled cable could add support for ComputerCraft as opposed to ComputerCraft's previous limited support. There has been discussion that mods such as Poject:Red will be getting the support soon, as well as MFR never getting the support natively, therefore you'll need a peripheral mod in order to get MFR cables to work.
