I want to take my turtle off of the ground and into my inventory.
When I mine it with a pickaxe, it vanishes completely and is assumedly destroyed. It is not on the ground nor in my inventory.
The same thing happens when I pickaxe a computer, monitor, etc.
Am I doing something wrong?
How can I do it correctly ?

Assuming you're using a vanilla pickaxe, that isn't supposed to happen. Exactly what are you hitting them with? You're not in creative mode or something, are you?
In older versions of ComputerCraft, it sometimes happens to turtles if you pickaxe them while they're moving. But even in that circumstance, it's very rare - rare enough that I couldn't even tell you if it's been fixed properly.
I guess it'd be worthwhile posting your mod list from one of your game logs.

I am in normal survival mode, using a vanilla pickaxe. I used stone, and diamond… same problem.
The items mined that vanished were not moving.
I only have Forge and ComputerCraft installed.

Sounds like a mismatch there. ComputerCraft 1.65 is for MineCraft 1.7.10, whereas your Forge install is only for MineCraft 1.7.2.

Since I only want to mess with ComputerCraft (originally I planned multiple mods), I will start over, NOT get Forge, and just get latest ComputerCraft.
Oops. It says "ComputerCraft 1.65 requires Minecraft version 1.7.10 with an up to date version of Minecraft Forge installed." … so I am not sure what to do.

I just started over and tried to download Forge v 1.7.10 but it goes to load 1.7.2-Forge10.12.2.1147 which is what I already had. I am thinking the version of Forge was not the problem.

When you started minecraft you did remember to change which version of forge/minecraft is being used right? Sounds to me like you did not.

Any additional advice I could get would be much appreciated.
UPDATE - I went into "edit profile" and chose "use version" of "release 1.7.2-Forge10.12.2.1147". Is that what you mean?

That is the Minecraft version
1.7.2 but ComputerCraft 1.65 requires version
1.7.10. So you should go to "edit profile" and in "use version" select "1.7.
10-ForgeXX.XX.X.XXX".

That is not an option.
Here are my choices for "Use Version":
Use latest version
Use version 1.8
Use version 1.7.10
Use version 1.7.9
etc etc
Use version 1.1
Use version 1.0
Use version 1.7.2-Forge10.12.2.1147
The only version mentioning Forge is the last one on the list.
