Can't place computer in Inventory

I apologise if this has been asked before. I couldn't find a topic using search.

I am new to minecraft modding and I have installed computercraft for version 1.7.10. I am using a multiplayer server which I am the host of.

My issue is when I try to craft a computer I can't place it in my inventory. When I click and drag it just jumps back to the crafting block. Sometimes if I am quick it will actually move, but after a second it will return to the crafting block.

Is there something special I have to do in order to get computercraft to work on a multiplayer server?

Usually no, as log as you have ComputerCraft installed on both server and client. It sounds to me like you've only installed it on your client, not the server.

To install it on the server all I would need to do is drop the mod into the server's mod folder correct?

That would be correct, yes.

There are conditions where some mods are only needed server or client side, but anything that adds a block or item to the game is always required in both.

Hmm, I'm not sure what to do. I have the .jar file in the mods folder on my server as well as my client. At least the game recognises that I'm trying to craft a computer.

This may seem like a silly question (my apologies if it is), but did you restart the server after dropping the jar file in the mods folder…and is the server running Forge?

I found the problem.

Wasn't a silly question I'm new to this. I did restart after dropping the jar in the mods folder, but what I failed to do was let my server know I was running a custom .jar file (I'm using MCprohosting for my server). So even though forge was in there it wasn't actually using it.

Thank you for mentioning forge I probably wouldn't have double-checked it if it didn't get brought up.
